Problem with existing telephone line

Long time lurker, posting here for first time. Had a search around but couldn't find any info on this, but apologies if I have missed it.
We moved to our house a couple of years ago. It already had an ntl/telewest connection. We kept the telephone line only, not interested at that stage in tv or broadband. Now we want to take advantage of the new all in one broadband/tel. line packages that are coming out. However I went to the biscit and talktalk websites and both say our line can't be swapped over as it is not a BT one.
Have other people had similar problems, and if so what are our options?
Many thanks

You can only have the services you mention on a BT line. BT must allow this, whereas cable companies do not. So you will need to cancel your NTL Telewest line and activate the BT one.0

I once rented a place that did not have a BT line at all, or probably I couldn't find it. That place had NTL and I had moved there for a month as the completion of house was delayed and I was forced to move out of my previous property. I called BT and they told me it would cost me around £75 to fix that problem and get the line activated.0

Thanks for the responses guys. Do you know if I can keep the present telephone number if I do reactivate the BT line?0

Damn, that's what I was trying to avoid! Do Telewest having any decent deals for phone/broadband that are comparable to the talktalk deal?
Thanks again for all the help.0 -
Hmm, yes it's a long shot but it might just work. Thanks.
Seems their best deal is £30 but includes extra TV which we don't really need. At £10/month more than talktalk it would pay in 8 months to reactivate the BT line, although changing numbers will be a right pain in the backside. Bit of a Hobsons choice this one.
Cheers guys.0
