It's not in the rules, but a thread has been posted on the Special Occasions board, (thread now moved, so link removed) about new policy regarding personal blogs. thriftlady, I'm as confused as you are :undecided :huh:

Was thinking said new rules would be further down this thread <confused smilie>.

Could you put up a link to them please - because I just keep gathering there are new rules and its easy to fall foul of them inadvertently doing summat perfectly innocent - but I havent spotted them anywhere.


<confused smilie> - not sure how we are supposed to abide by new rules when they arent laid down clearly for people to see easily <confused smilie>

I have the feeling that things like personal blogs, for instance, are often being treated as if they come under the "no advertisements allowed" bit of the rules. I think the rules need clarifying here then ie:
- "You are allowed to mention personal blogs (subject to said blogs not carrying any advertisements on them)"
- "We reserve the right to delete posts mentioning blogs that DO have advertisements on them"

That would ensure no linking to advertisements inadvertently (thereby offending the de facto "advertisers" on the MSE website) - BUT leave the links to those vast majority of blogs that are just personal blogs (ie no advertisements on them) safely in place.

I think it is important not to upset MSE readers in order to keep MSE "de facto" advertisers happy:) - and I would imagine they would accept this position as fair to both us and them.

(there are some of us who have a not-very-flattering-at-all word to describe advertisers - errrr....cough...unless you are the advertising executive person I know ITRW reading this....in which case "Dear Mr X...I dont mean YOU personally".....)

Why was my post about my company/site/blog deleted?
MoneySavingExpert.com is an ad free site - you cannot pay to buy space - one of the reasons why so many people use it! Equally you are not allowed to advertise any goods, services and/or companies anywhere on the forum, or through private messages (PMs), no matter how honourable the intention.

'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites you or friends are involved in (whether you’re selling something or not), or to your eBay or other auction sales.
All posts which we consider to be advertising will be removed where reported.
Users are allowed links in profile pages but please don't mention them in your posts or signature in any way.
If you continue to advertise on the forum, your permission to post on the forum will also be removed. This includes the Referrers Board.
If you're a company/business and think you have a genuinely good deal worth letting our site users know about then please email the Forum Team on [EMAIL="abuse&#64;moneysavingexpert.com"]abuse@moneysavingexpert.com[/EMAIL]. Do not post on the Forum. If appropriate the Forum Team will forward your email to the MSE Team and it will be considered.

I've highlighted the sentence in red.

So, is my signature 'blogging makes me happy' not allowed?

I often write about things on my 'thing I'm not allowed to mention' which are deeply relevant to topics on this board. An example this week was the topic of ice lollies -I took photos and wrote a recipe plus lots of other ideas for different flavours. I spent a lot of time and creative effort on it and I really didn't feel inclined to repeat it all here simply because I'm not allowed to link to it. It seems very silly and petty to me particularly as I can link to someone else's blog.

Of course I realise this out of the control of the BGs Zippy, Penny and Pink. But I really feel like visiting this board less and less:(
