Price Of A Half

They can charge what they like for a half, but must be displayed somewhere on a price list. Any declared pricing of £x per pint only indicates that a pint should cost £x - there is absolutely no price offer implied for part of a pint by that.
Plenty of places have deals for spirit doubles - they are not bound to sell a single for half that price.0 -
With respect, that wasn't my query at all. I was asking if it was legal to advertise/display a price per measure and then charge a different price for a part measure?
Tesco currently advertise 1.25l of Coca Cola for £1, stating that it's 8p/100ml. Good luck demanding 500ml for 40p.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -
Yes,its only 5p,its a principle rather than a life changing issue, but then so was short measures in pubs where you can easily get ripped off if you don't know your rights.
This reminds me of the old Tommy Cooper line... 'So I says to him, "It's not the principle, it's the money"'0 -

It's nothing to do with supermarkets. If the supermarket has a different size they are obliged to price that product up and label it. They then quote the price per ml for the different sizes and you can make a comparison. Invariably, but not always, the larger size is cheaper per ml.
I don't want to ask the supermarket for a smaller measure....I am talking about a totally different situation relating to licensed premises selling beer from tap.:beer:0 -

I couldn't agree more. The point is that they didn't display the price for the half pint. Also a different beer bought as a half pint ,at exactly the same time , was precisely half the price of the pint.

They should have a price list somewhere in the bar which can be over-ridden by promotional materials (signs, chalk-boards etc) - Trading Standards would be interested if they haven't.
The official price list will be in much smaller print...0
