in Water bills
Hi
I had my water bill the other day and started querying how much it costs against other people i.e. next door neightbour
When I rang up they said that because I had a business they charge me more - but I have no water running in my business. Basically I run a shop which is next to my residential property and the water bill covers this.
The total was over £500 (unmetered) whereas my neighbour who is also unmetered gets a £200 bill
Is there anyway round esp as I dont use any water in the business property and feels scandalous!!!

Couple of questions>
Is your property listed on the VOA as a business ?
What is the site area / drainage on the bill ? Is it listed like a band 4 plus ? If that is the case you are paying commercial drainage.
Problem being is that if you have a RV for the shop and one for your domestic property you will be paying for both. They might not even be aware that there is no active supply.
Best thing to do it either have a meter or ask for the shop to be disconnected (as they can then see that there is no supply and you would then only be billed for SWD)
Or of they are set up on assessed they will assume there is a supply and charge accordingly based on it being commercial.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Presumably the rateable value you are being billed on covers the shop and domestic property,in which your case a meter is prob your only course of action. Whether it is beneficial or not depends on how your water company bills for surface water drainage and how much you use in the domestic property.0
