Range cookers

Hi All, thinking of getting the kitchen done and would like a range cooker (not the aga type, the sensible type).
Problem is I have no idea about which brands are good quality. I popped round to Currys yesterday to feel up a few cookers and qas quite suprised to see that some well known brands seemed very cheap and tacky, while other brands I'd never heard of seemed quite well built.
Does anyone know where I can find more info or reviews or have any recommendations?

Stoves tend to be very well regarded, and at a fraction of the the price of a Aga.0

From chatting to our local independant kitchen supplier. He recommended, Rangemaster at the low end of the market (although I've read very mixed reviews on these), Falcon, Brittania or Bertazzoni at the mid range or Lacanche, Wolf at the top of the range.
It seems though that the 'low end' Rangemaster start about £1200, so it's always going to be a toss up between what looks good and how the cooker actually performs ('a candle in a tin box' was how the kitchen supplier described most other cookers!)
I'm currently looking at putting in a new kitchen and trying to work out ways to buy a good range cooker and stay within budget! There are some good looking cookers for under a grand, but I'm not too sure how they perform.
rangecookers.co.uk seems to have a very good selection covering all price ranges0 -
Have a look at the Hotpoint EG1000EX.
I looked for weeks for a replacement for my old range cooker and having found that a lot of the ones available were not at all good quality or too expensive this was well made and it performs well.
My husband is a gas engineer and he also thinks it is well made for the price.
I bought it online but cant remember which site it was at the moment.
You can go and look at it in Comet I think and see whether you like it.0 -
Hi, I've been looking at range cookers too and came across the site below.

I have the same dilemma... would love to get one for under £1000 but then not sure of the quality etc. Let me know what you decide!

Stoves NOT recommended. I have one and it just seems to have no oompf."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

I bought a gorgous looking but absolutely useless range cooker about 6 years ago, I bit the bullet and spent a chunk of a bonus on a new one just before Christmas. The new one is a Cannon Professional 1000 (all gas) and it has everything I wanted when I was seduced by the good looks of the previous Italian job. The new one has two full sized ovens and a seperate high powered grill, I even got an extra ring on the hob, although the hob was good on the other one it's nice to have the extra ring.0

Rangemaster are okay and are part of the aga company !!!
If I was buying one today I would look at the Britannia range cookers and the main reason is Britannia cookers are 100cm wide and are well made !! Rangemaster are 110 or90cm wide and if you need to replace your cooker at a later date there is a bigger range of cookers in the 100 cm wide range !! the Rangemaster 110 cm or 90 cm limits your choice of replacement if you want to replace with a exact fit
I hope what I have wrote makes sense to you ???0
