@PoppyCat: Essentials tariff is the social tariff, and is discounted for both gas and electricity.

As per BritishGas.co.uk's "Search" function (right hand side, I literally typed in the names of the tariffs):

These are up to date as they say they are from the 4th Feb 2010.

I am on EnergySmart but I have also got the OnlineSaver which gives a 3% discount from standard rate, not as much as the WebSaver6 but i wanted the monitor and £40 after a year as my consumption is low (only live in a small 1 bed flat).

I went with this tariff and enjoyed the energy meter until around 2 weeks ago when BG sent a replacement power adapter saying that the other one could have safety issues.

So I replaced the adapter then one evening I heard the adapter emitting a low buzzing sound.

This worried me endlessly (worried it might burst into flames and burn down my house) so I've unplugged it

Need to check areas carefully as in mine (SWEB) click 6 is cheaper than Websaver 6, and there is no lock in or exit penalty with click 6.
