Good Morning,

I would like to change my internet, I currently have Sky Connect which has been fine for the past year because of a !!!!-up by Sky when ordering they paid for my first year, but now I am going to have to start to pay £17 a month which seems a bit steep!.

Apparently I live to far away from an exchange or something (all goes over my head!)

I have looked at the Samknowsbest site and to be honest I cant make sense of it all all

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LNPOP

I did used to have AOL who were rubbish so don't want them back

Please help?

Cheers
YDSM

I should probably add that I also have Sky Tv and phone which costs me with the BB around £48 all in.
I wish I would take my own advice!

You can get O2/Be. That will probably be your best option.

Go via Quidco for O2 and get £50 cashback.

  • Hi

Thanks for your reply, that's what I thought from looking at the results but when I do the checker thing on o2 site it says I can only get the Home Broadband Access Package which is £22.50 a month, so even with the £50 back works out the same as Sky.

The Be site says I can't get it at all!.

Living in (almost) central London I didn't think I'd have such problems, its not like I am out in the sticks somewhere :(

    Cheers

  • Your exchange is a Market 3 one. That means you could get Plusnet value at £5.99 per month and not have to go down the LLU route.
There are some limitations to the value package but should suit a normal user.

Looks like that although LLU access is available for O2/Be it's full in your area - the problem with living in a highly populated area. ;)

    I wouldn't go with O2's access service - it's throttled a lot.

Your problem is that you are on the dreaded Poplar exchange, which is very oversubscribed . O2 is enabled for LLU at Poplar, but it would appear that they are 'full' for further LLU connections.
Do not go for O2 Access, this is an non-LLU service which has major problems.
Use the samknows data to check if you can get an LLU service from one of the other ISP's listed under LLU Operators.
I was also going to suggest that you look at Plusnet Value at £5.99 (as suggested by notbritishgas)-this is a non-LLU service, so you can get that.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hello,

Ok I have had a look at Plusnet and I can get it for 5.99 (yay!) which is fab but it is also saying my estimated speed would be .5MB isn't that slow?

Have to admit my internet isn't super fast at the moment is there anyway I can find out how fast it is now to see if this is better / worse?

    Thanks

I assume you are saying 0.5Mb? Yes sounds slow.

You're obviously quite a distance away from the exchange. If you know how to get into your line stats from your Sky router, find out your downstream attenuation.

    or at least run a speedtest from here;
