Friend moving house soon, best internet options?

Hi,

I have a friend who is hoping to move house in the next few months, and is quite a novice computer user. She uses PAYG dial-up internet access (I think it's Tiscali), but as most of her internet time is during the day she found her last 3 month phone bill included over £50 of internet calls.

She has family in different parts of the world, so would like to use Skype to contact them. So ideally she would like a broadband connection, however if she moves within the next few months she won't be able to complete her 12 month contract. Are there any services which don't have a 12 month contract?

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jonny

Eclipse allow you to move house for free - we just have - you have to sign up for an extra 12 months when you move - BUT eclipse allow you to leave at any time if you needed to.. you just have to pay £47 if you decide to leave. (which is the connection fee you pay at the start if you sign up for the monthly contract - they waive the fee if you stay with them a year). I'm very happy with them.. they've also got an offer on for 3 months at £9.99 a month..

Moving was very easy - we just filled in a form on the site - when BT moved out telephone line we were reconnected pretty quickly (it would have been the day we moved, but BT made a mistake).

I have got a referral code if anyone is interested..

Yep a few do monthly contracts, I have a monthly one with https://www.zen.co.uk, they are not the cheapest but their customer service is 2nd to none. I believe others also do monthly ones - have a look on ADSLguide.org and do a few comparisons.

Firstly, Skype are not the cheapest, and often you can beat VOIP, and using the Moneysaving expert call checker may be worthwhile.

You can get broadband on a monthly basis but it is likely to average out more expensively because of the provider wanted to get back the activation fee.

Force9 may be worth looking at, as they will do one month contracts, you just have to pay to come out of them, not sure how much. But they also do dial up 20 hours for £4.99. That is 1200 minutes a month, and my guess is that this is probably around what your friend is using, and would reduce her bill to around £15 a quarter. Excellent value for daytime dialup.
