    Hand-modelling
If you have lovely hands that you have kept nicely moisturised and manicured - whether you're male or female - you can make money out of them. Most of the work is in London, although some major cities such as Birmingham or Manchester will also have jobs. You can make anything from about £100 a week to a £1,000s a week if you get some adverts that take a long time to film.

    Film/TV extra
Anyone can be a film extra or have a walk-on part. You don't need any acting ability or particular looks. Simply contact some extras agencies and get yourself on their books, although you should be careful who you sign up with. There are some rogue agencies that will charge you money to register with them and then do nothing for you.

You can earn up to £200 if you have to do an hour or two overtime, use your own uniform or special props, do a night shoot, or all sorts of other things. Most filming work is on weekdays - and it really helps if you have a car so that you can get to the more rural shoots.

The 1p I paid to Amex was the interest on my balance in the HSBC account!

Oh, I meant on my HSBC account - so I can send payments electronically rather than by cheque.

I don't think you can check your balance on M&S on the internet - only by phone! I'm annoyed about this too!

  • Right, I'm officially cross with Halifax!

I have got a really old current account with them, with £5.92 in it. I phoned them to ask if I could change to their new high interest current account and get the £100 incentive but they said no as I was an existing customer.

Apparently if I close my account it then I'd have to wait a month before I could open a new one and by then the promotion will have finished.

I wanted to change to them because they offer £100 to change to them, so I thought why not as they pay 6.2% interest.

But apparently they don't want my business.

So, in true MSE style, I plan to kick up a stink. Then close my account. Pah.

I've escalated the issue to a more senior person. Hopefully they'll phone back today and then I can complain. If they don't then I will probably write them a stroppy letter. I'll close my account as soon as I am able - apparently I can't do it over the phone, only in branch. Not a chance. I'll do it by letter if I have to.

    Grrrrrr

EDIT: I've transferred the £5.92 from the account to my HSBC account in preparation for closing it.
