Well done on how much debt you have got rid of so far. That is really a lot. Cars are such a money drain aren't they. On the way to school Friday and pop, puncture. In the end needed to new tyres, as the other one on the back was bald too. Oops. Over £120 but they did give me a discount cos I was cheaky and asked! Something I would have never done before finding this site!

Yup - I didn't calculate my payments to Amex properly for a few months (I just did the sums in my head) and it was only when I updated my amount directly from the statement did I realise I'd been counting incorrectly!!!

Car is being a right pain at the moment - it's now decided to start stuttering again (an electrical problem apparently) so it looks like it's back to the dealer for another session of TLC from the mechanics!

  • Hi all,

Sent a letter yesterday to First Direct asking for another £50 back in bank charges on my now closed current account. Sent it in one of their pre-pay envelopes that I had from when I opened the account - not sure if this was a good idea now but it's done.

I'll keep updating as to my progress - if I have to send the next letter it will be by registered post (but this costs £1 a pop so last time I had to spend £2 to get back £30 - grrr).

Oooh time to send the follow up letter as I haven't heard from them!

OK so, with a little help, I have written a complaint letter to Egg asking for my PPI money back. Let's see what they say! I have asked them to reply within 14 days, so by the 20th February.

If they don't reply or are unwilling to refund me, I'll write to them again on the 20th (as laid out on their website) and then, again if they don't reply or don't refund me, I'll write to the Financial Ombudsman.

Oh, and I used a pre-paid envelope that I had kicking about. Hope they don't mind too much.

Wish me luck! I'm being a trailblazer this time round!

  • Thought I'd check out Quidco to see if there was anything going and found that I could get £30 for opening a citibank savings account.

    So I have.

Hopefully I get accepted (should be) and then get my cashback.

    Then I'll probably close it.

    Aren't I bad? :A

  • Thought it might be worth recording this here, for completeness. There's a new thread started on how everyone's lightbulb moments came about:

    So here's mine:

What did it feel like when you had yours?

    I was annoyed with myself.

    Where were you?

At work checking my internet banking and realising how much money went out every month on MINIMUM PAYMENTS on my MULTIPLE credit cards!

    How did it happen?

Gradually! It started when I changed from paying my student credit card off in full every month to just paying back the minimum payments - because, of course, I would pay the rest off by cheque...or not as it turned out.

Then, when I started working, all these lovely credit card companies offered my 0% balance transfers and 0% on purchases, which got me out of trouble for 6m to 9m periods. But then all that happened was that I had more credit cards taking minimum payments.
