Airport Parking Hidden Fee

Hello, I've just booked a parking space at Gatwick South using Airport.parking.co.uk. I've chosen them because I followed Martin's advice i.e checked on various screenscarpers etc. The parking that I wanted came at £36.40 on all of the screenscapers. I checked if cashback was avaliable and yes, there are websites that I could have clicked through via topcashback for a 5 to 10% casback. However, Martin also posts a code for a 5% discount if the parking is booked via airport.parking.co.uk so I figured I would use them (the sum involved is so small that I'd rather have the discount now than a cashback later).

Anyway, I applied the code as advised on Martin's airport parking guide, and was quoted a price of 34.58 for the parking I wanted. Fair enough, I tell my hubby to go ahead and buy it.... but then he tells me that only AFTER inserting credit card number etc, he was told that we'd be charged a £1.50 admin fee, bringing the total to £36.08.

Essentially, the actual discount I was given is 0.8%, not 5% as advertised.

I have little experience of booking airport parkings so perhaps you will be able to elucidate if adding admin fees on top is normal and whether it is normal not to make this clear from the start.

If this is normal then fair enough. otherwise, MSE may want to post a disclaimer on their airport parking site to the tune of 'airport.parking.co.uk has offered us a 5% discount code, but since they will recoup most of it via admin fees, you're likely to be better off chasing cashback'

Just my thoughts!!!

i think you will find that most companies charge a fee for paying by CC, so all other deals you found, would most likely be charging this too

When you buy anything you must read the small print to check whether your preferred method of payment incurs additional fees. As already stated some companies will charge you for using a CC rather than a debit card as they have to pay more towards the transaction costs.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
