This has already been said many times and there is no argument about it. The disagreement arose because people (including those that have thanked your post) wrongly believed that you could not get Housing Benefit on a separate property if you owned another one.
Incidentally, the person most keen to tell me I was wrong, even though I had presented clear explanations of everything, has at least had the decency to admit, on another thread, that he/she does not know a great deal about benefits:

It's post 3. Makes you wonder why they post on the benefit board and then presume to know more than people who DO know about benefits.0 -
You post that ^^^^ then you continue your little abuse vendettaI know nothing about aimee, I think we should just stick with trying to help the OP and anyone else who might have similar problems.I won't answer this person, as is their wish.
I will simply hold him/her up as an example. May I ask everyone not to state as fact things on these boards that they do not actually know, things that could be misleading? Things such as 'No HB if you own your own house' which, in isolation, are simply wrong. People are asking important questions on here, things which have a major impact on their lives, if you only think you know the answer, then please say it is only what you think.
The result of DX2's comment is that we have ended up getting off-topic on something that the OP did not even ask (I accept my own responsibility in this) and we are all (rightly) in trouble.
OP, I am sorry your thread has turned into a schoolyard spat, please seek advice from the CAB or equivalent organisation, as I advised in my first reply, and feel free to PM me for further advice.
Might want to take a little bit of your own advice love, you're like an old dog who has to go back for that bone never giving up, you are becoming somewhat tiresome. Can I also add you seem to have an unhealthy obsession regarding the thanks button you might want to seek help with thatThis has already been said many times and there is no argument about it. None of you are really helping with all this bickering, I pm'd the OP but I'm not surprised there hasn't been an update!!!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

Hi,
Thanks for all the info. I'm sorry that I missed some details out:
1) My ex-wife works less than 16hrs a week.
2) I'm not looking to claim HB for a rented accomodation. I doubt it would be given due to salary and the fact my name is on a joint mortgage.
3) We have a mortgage, but the payment is significantly less than renting a similar home.
4) The children are aged 3 and 4.
5) There is no other capital or investments between us.
All I really want is for the children to stay in the same home, instead of unsettling and moving somewhere else. The last thing I want is for them to move somewhere else in rented acommodation.
We have an appt booked at CAB soon as this seemed to be the best approach from ppl on the forum.
Thanks again!0 -

Good for you for considering the childrens needs above everything else.
Hope it all goes well at the CAB, is there anywhere else you could stay so things are a bit clearer while you are sorting things out?Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness.
