i have a tumble dryer, shower works off gas boiler, have a dishwasher on once a day got an lcd tv in November but switch that off when not in use. I have now removed plug from t/dryer.... I can't believe it I have always had one and NEVER had a reading so high.... I have been walking round turning everything off, even down to the toaster. I never thought I would end up with basically owing the electricty company so much! I am now assessing everything I use with venom!

Is it an old dial meter? If so, are you sure you've read the meter correctly?

Electric has soared in the last 5 years by 66%. Starting to be more carefull helps as bills go up and more people become unemployed.
Buy a home energy monitor and you wiil soon see whare the electric is going and learn the cost of switching things on like the tumble dryer.
Sitting in the lounge earlier when my adult son went out, I could tell by the monitor it had not gone down to what I expected. Soo I went for a walk around the house and snapped 1 light off in back room and sons tv at the wall (left on standby)- all wired up to all sorts of games. The monitor went down a bit more and every little is being Thrifty.:(
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

jpmummy - Fridge/freezer running continuously? (Should be cutting in and out on thermostat)
Immersion heater left switched on ? (Or thermostat faulty so water overheating)
Lights left on in loft or garage?
Having said that my average electric consumption this winter has been around 22 units per day so far - 5 bedroom detached house and I go round switching things off too!!!
