gas and electric annual usage estimate

Options
we have lived in our new place since 9th December 2009 and I have just looked at the meter readings. I then divided these by 77 (number of days we have lived here) and then mltiplied by 365 to get a number for the year,

Gas = 10828kwh
electric = 2331kwh

Does anyone know if this will be a decent estimate to our usage over the year?

thanks

    If the heating is gas then the electricity estimate should be fine but the gas will be an overestimate. Unless you haven't used much heating?

    It's okay as a starting point but you may also want to run the comparisons with a lower gas figure as well.
  • yeh our heating is gas, when I have looked on camparison sites it gives an annual cost of around £550 which seems really low
  • Did you convert the gas meter readings into kwh? I guess not.
    10828 kwh is actually an underestimate, especially as you have taken readings in the coldest part of the year and used them to calculate usage including summer months.

    I've just tallied up my last years bills for a comparison online:
    Jan 10 statement - 7353 kWh
    Oct 09 statment - 1567 kWh
    July 09 statement - 919kWh
    Apr 09 statement - 7935KWh

    Makes very interesting reading, usage is 6x in winter :eek::eek::eek:

    Hiya, if this reading is for gas I would think it is the cost of CH you are using.
    Is your home insulated well? Walls, roof and windows.
    If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

    no its electric! I can't understand it.... I am walking round at the moment turning everything off. I recently change suppliers would this have anything to do with it?

    Is it an old dial meter? If so, are you sure you've read the meter correctly?

    That's 20.5 units a day.

    What electric items do you use? shower? tumble dryer? plasma t.v?
