Probably unlikely. If that was the reason, you would have appealed and explained the reason for the number of searches. So it'll be other factors.
You lack of history won't be helping, just having a phone contract and a small limit card.0 -
It certainly was the reason, it has been confirmed but Arnold Clark refuse to get this sorted as they see that they can do as many searches as they like.
The mortgage company clearly states that if they were not authorised and they are removed they will reconsider. They specifically quoted the very poor credit Score was due to the multiple searches!0 -
They cannot say you would definitely have been accepted for a mortgage if these searches did not exist.
If you signed to say they could search multiple lenders then they were authorised to do them.
How long ago were these searches made? and when did you apply for a mortgage?
Have you considered speaking to a mortgage broker to see which other lenders might consider someone with such a limited credit history? If not that would be worth doing.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
They did say the decision was based on the searches and the obvious poor credit score because the searches!
No i didnt sign for multiple searches!
They were all made made within the same week of which mortgage company done search afterwards.
I was`nt refused for such a limited credit, I was refused because the searches and poor score and as again advised, If i had more debt in my name I would have been refused on the grounds of not being able to afford the payments. You know the x your salary and disposable income thingy!
The simple fact is that some stupid little boy looking for commission @ Arnold Clark messed up my file then had the cheek to say to their manager that they contacted me after 3 refusals and I told them to keep trying. One thing doing what they done but being called a Liar is the last straw.0 -
One thing i forgot to mention was that after making the complaint for some reason there was 4 more duplicate searches for finance for that same amount done by one of the companies who done one of the initial searches weeks earlier, ALL DONE ON THE SAME DAY!
I wish i never went near these Idiots.

Would the fact that you were attempting to get a car loan PLUS a mortgage in the same week not go against you?Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8

amibeingrippedoff - no offence but if even the subprime lenders that AC use wouldn't lend to you then I am thinking you probably would have struggled to get a mortgage or unless you have a large deposit at least a mortgage at a fair rate.
I'm not saying that the practises of AC are right because I don't know what you signed and regardless I would say that multiple searches are madness. Up to 3 I would say is reasonable... more than that means there is a problem with your credit file and you need to address it!
If you have a £200 CC and only a £10 a month mobile bill on your file and you feel any more debt would have meant you would have been refused based on "not being able to afford it" then I would suggest that possibly this would still have affected your mortgage application...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Just out of curiosity.
How would I address a problematic credit file which shows £10 pm for a mobile contract and a £200 CC I dont want to increase clearly showing on my file for the last 12 months all 000000000000
Just to mention. the last 3 subprime lenders they used were Santander, Barclays and Bank of Scotland. ?????????
The simple fact is, if they had contacted me i would have allowed as far as a second search and then i would have told them to STOP so i can try contact these companies to find out the reason why i was refused. I could have then given this to the mortgage lender and explained it would only be natural i would try a second lender. NOW it simply looks like i dont give a toss who gives me the finance, I AM DESPERATE! which certainly isnt the case as i have a perfectly good car just now and just wanted to change, you know new house, new car.
Anyway, the whole point of the initial post was that Arnold Clark will carry out as many searches as they like and its WRONG.0 -
Have you followed the advice posted up in post 2 Link?
It is very helpful and you evidently have not much to lose now!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
I will give it a go once i calm down and see what comes out of it.
There is enough regulation for companies to check what we as consumers are up to but the regulations in place to protect us from rogues who have only ££££ in mind only works once there are thousands of complaints.
FSA, Consumer Direct, etc will tell you straight that they cant deal with individual cases but will keep it on file until there are enough complaints to justify intervening.
If i were a company is there such a thing as doing a credit check on another company?0
