They are not cheap compared not only to other High Street stores but also internet stores. I think their days were numbered some time ago.0

I haven't bought games on the high street for years, so no, this doesn't surprise me. It is adapt or die in retail. The net has changed the entire landscape of shopping.
I have a DS I take everywhere.
I am an immense Zelda fan.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Their business plan three years ago could have been summed up in three lines:
Looks like the answer was 'not enough'.
Always sad to see jobs go and high street stores shut though. As wageslave says though, it's adapt or die.0 -
Consolidation more likely; as the article says, they own Gamestation too, so where there are stores even under the seperate brands co-located nearby then it makes sense to remove some to cut costs.
Hope they don't close the local Game here... it stinks in Gamestation :rotfl:0 -
I never understood why anyone would ever buy anything in Game unless they had a decent sale on.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Maybe people are enticed in by the smell of sweat emitted from long-haired, leather trench coat wearing, overweight men in their late-twenties and early thirties who still think it's okay to buy models of Hell Boy and the Deathstar to display in their bedroom, which is obviously still situated at their parent's house.0 -
Game sales in UK took a fairly big dip last year, so I guess its no big surprise. They make a lot of dosh from selling used games, so as long as that keeps going they'll prob be ok. Well, until everything is digital download, then they're screwed.
True story: I got Dirt2 in a Game sale for 20 quid, and the assistant asked if I wanted instead to buy it *used* for *25* quid.
Very occasionally Game/Gamestation have a good deal but you have to be eagle-eyed and patient to wait for it. I wont pay 39.99 for Assassin's Creed 2... but I am a patient man
. Look at the Fifa games, you can get Fifa09 for about 5 quid *new* now!
Edit: my local Game smells funny, the Gamestation is ok!0 -
Given that in Swindon there are 2 Games almost next door to each other this does not come as a surprise. In fact if you count the concession in Debenhams there are 3.Please remember other opinions are available.0

They should shut them all & save their money.
It is a failing business model due to the internet & their products are for people who funnily enough use the internet...... alotNot Again0 -
Rarely have I seen such vitriol directed at a company, certainly doesn't sound like they are loved like Woolworths (although we never bought anything in there either). I did visit one of these places recently, don't know if it was Game or not, it just sold computer games and stuff. It was amazing, I felt completely old and out of it. Young people (don't you just hate them), buying young people's stuff which only they know about. I was after a game which apparently was like so out of date they had barely heard of it, and they might have secondhand, but they didn't.
I left feeling thoroughly old and depressed.0
