Approaching end of contract - how do I leave?

I am out of contract with TMobile at the end of this month (contract ends 23/03/2010. I am likely to move to another operator.

When should I request my PAC, and when should I actually phone them up and cancel? I don't want to be put onto some sort of 'rolling' contract because that way they will get an extra month out of me for free.

Do I have to make sure I cancel before the end of contract date?

Cheers!

You should phone 4 days ago :D.

PAC code is valid for 30 days and you can use it within 30 days. Service will terminate on that day.
Still have to pay for those 30 days though.

If you want to move your number don't say the word 'cancel' if you cancel your contract you lose your number. Make sure you only ask for the pac code...

Ring customer services and ask for PAC number straight away as said above. If you're worth it, they'll offer you upgrade deals to stay. Once you've got the PAC, you can use it anytime in the next 30 days - takes about 3 days to transfer your number from when you give the PAC to your new network. The existing line with T-Mobile will not be disconnected until you use the PAC - so if you fail to use it, you will still remain connected and billed by them.
  • Cheers guys. One thing I want to check - if I request a PAC code on Monday and used it on Friday, would I only get billed upto 23/03/2010? Or can they bill me for the next month also as it is less than 30 days after I requested the code?

    Thanks !

You are billed 30 days in advanced, remember the big bill when you started your contract.

If you use a PAC code 15 days before the 30 days notice, you'll get a refund for 15 days line rental, minus any outstanding call charges

So on a £30 a month contract, that is about £15.
If you use the PAC on the last day you'll get about £30.

But do remember to check you receive a final bill, vodafone did send me one but forgot to send the refund, so do chase it up if you are in credit.

  • Hiya

Does that mean I will be due a refund? Contract ends on 29th March so phoned yesterday for PAC code and used it (will become active on Weds).

    Thanks
  • Its possible it just depends how much you have paid so far.

on a 12 month contract at £10, total price is £120.

If by month 11, you have paid £120 already, and you PAC early in the month, you'll get a final bill of about £2.50, but already paid the £120, you'll get a refund.

  • Ok thanks. I'm coming to the end of 3 years with them so I can't remember if I paid double at the start (I think I did).

    had some issues with tmob.

cancelled in jan, and stoll got bills from them until a few days ago where i called them up for the 4th time and demanded them to stop! their agents got confused with my account two times?
i asked for the pac code and never used it, instead cancelled the contract. the pac code overrode the account cancellation meaning it didnt get cancelled. call them up again and they said they deal with it and got charged another month. then when i called them about this they sorted it out, only to charge me a £15 administration charge and not tell me.

rang them one last time and got the mto make everything £0.00 on the account, and threatened to cancel the directdebit also. they agreed to wave the admin charge and refund any additional charges and close the account.

just make sure you keep an eye out with these guys, they're annoying. took nearly 7 weeks basically, to fully cancel the damn thing.
