I could really do with some advice about this - OH will be taking the laptop away in a fortnight so if it needs to be taken somewhere to be fixed I really need to know.

Do you have the original XP disc? If so, you need to run a REPAIR
By the way, sheer bad luck that as ive never known Dr Web make a computer unbootable before (Unless something else has happened inbetween):idea:0
