WCLI = Wholesale Calls Line Independent - which is a package BT Wholesale now sells to other 'calls providers' and which allows them to route their calls over the BT network whilst charging their customers for them themselves.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Luckily whilst on the phone to BT I said about the 1280 calls being barred from sky because they were trying to get me to take out a package for 18mths to make 10 calls a month in order to get the reduced installation rate, the (very nice) chap who I was speaking to spent nearly 1/2 hour speaking to various people before someone was able to confirm that it no longer works - so thank you for the heads up or that could have been an expensive mistake!!
Next question for you as you seem to be a good font of knowledge in this area, Sky have offered me a good deal (or what I think is one anyway) I renewed my broadband with BT in September last year and have always had my line rental with them, will they charge me to cancel or is it that as we are moving house the contract will be cancelled as I know that they start a new contract when you move but does that only work one way?
I hope my ramblings make sense!
Thanks

If you are in contract for your BT line you will be charged £7.50 for every month left on contract to leave if you are n the evening and weekend or weekend plan. You would be charged £8 for every month left if you have an anytime plan (which I am assuming you don't if your calls are routed through Sky).0

I have no experience of that but, if it was a 12 or 18 month contract which started in Sept. 2009, I expect BT will allow the contract to continue at the new house (or they'd waive the breach of contract charges if you took out a new contract).Sky have offered me a good deal (or what I think is one anyway) I renewed my broadband with BT in September last year and have always had my line rental with them, will they charge me to cancel or is it that as we are moving house the contract will be cancelled as I know that they start a new contract when you move but does that only work one way?
The only way to be sure is to ask them though. I always use their online webmail so that I get answers in writing.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
