  • I wouldn't have a problem with it-I have a four year old and it's great to keep him occupied!

I thought it may be ok she is inviting 25 of her bestest friends - (i love how she has 25 bestest friends) so if a few cant make it we can always widen the net.

Also dont most mums get breakfast / kids homemade prezzie/ somthing hubby bought in the garage first thing in the morning then pretty much forgotton about?
A few years ago my friend had her daughter's 3rd birthday party at a hall on mothering sunday at a similar time and several people didn't turn up. It wasn't due to them doing something with their child, but due to them going to their own mothers or MIL's for Sunday dinner/tea.
  • Until I got too ill to work last July I had been a professional childrens entertainer for 10 years, I have always done my 2 shows on mothering sunday the same as if it was any other sunday. Although the person I sold my business to is taking the day off on mothers day so that he can do 'family stuff'.
As a mother I would be glad of a nice afternoon with my child at a party, especially at the time you are having it, it leaves time for own family in the morning and then parents/inlaws at tea time.
You could make a thing of it on your invitiations suggesting that mums can come take it easy on mother day with a cuppa and a cake whilst their little ones have fun!
hope you have a super party x

Last year my son's birthday was on mothering sunday, I didn't even realise until all deposits had been paid.

I did feel bad about it, but it didn't seem to affect numbers. All but one accepted invites and one didn't turn up, but I have since found out she is a serial no show'er!

I did lots of drink and biscuits.

I found a mixture of mums wanting to get away and have a chat, and others were dads giving mum a break.

I think it does the littles ones good to have an activity on the day, it is normally not thought about for them, and they some times get caged in.

It can also be a good excuse to avoid MIL!

PS - what I did find though was I missed out on Mothers Day, and I didn't get another go at it either!

In my house Mothers day is a serious disappointment anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem, infact it would take my mind off feeling so unappreciated.
  • thanks for the replies - we have booked the hall.... :)

  • Just to let you know i have also booked a hall and my DD 's party will be from 3 to 5pm on Mothering Day...So we will be busy at the same time.:D. I was also worried about being that 'special day' and asked few mothers before booking... they all said that it was fine ...they can have a family lunch then take the kids to the party... The hall is near the school so everybody lives nearby..... I'm hoping it will be a fun day! Oh and BTW most mothers asked if they could stay on... prob prefer a nice chat away from home..;)

  • I have to admit to being amazed at someone needing to ask this as Mothers Day isn't special at all in our family.
Just goes to show how every family is different as obviously it means a lot to some, something that just wouldn't have occured to me !
    Have a lovely party!
