    No you cannot.

    Why not run a feed from the main Sky box to the upstairs TV for viewing.

    Well you could but it would be a lot of bother as you would have to phone up Sky to re-pair the card each time you switched cards. I wouldn't recommend it.
  • ok thanks, its no big deal anyway. re running the cable from the downstairs box, there would still be people watching downstairs flicking channels over.
    re getting the card re-paired each time , i take it that each card is registered to one box/
    i'm probably going to get bbc freesat anyway , i was just looking for a way to spread the cost and thought i might use the old sky box until i can afford a super duper all singing hd box. is this feasable- i cant find much info on where to get the sky cards.

    A years basic Sky sub will pay for a Humax Foxsat HDR box, so just cancel Sky and go 100% Freesat. Your existing dish will be fine as long as you have at least a twin feed from the LNB to get the recording function on the Hummy.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    You will only get one part time BBC channel in HD and a few sporadic HD programmes on ITV, is it worth the expense?

    I would keep the Sky Receiver.

    Info from Sky;

    " Q: I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?

    A: All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £20. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400. "
