my ex partner and i split around 9 months ago and since then he has paid nothing toward our 2 children. He hasnt seen them in a while now.Yesterday he put an envelope through my door with £100 in it.Dont know what to do now,I get income support, housing benefit,i dont work as the children are 2 and 6 months.DO i have to declare this money,i assume i do but am worried as i dont receive regular money from him i cannot afford for to lose benefits.I did ask him at the start to pay me a regular payment even if it was only as small amount so i could do everything properly.Any advice please.

Others may be able to give advice on the effect it may have but you do have to declare it. When I take people's claims they have to agree to inform of any further payments of child maintenence they receive. Hope this helps.0

have you contacted the CSA?if he hasnt been paying he should and hopefully they can make him, could the £100 have been an early easter present for the kids(nudge nudge)0

This works out at £2.56 a week maintenance (£1.28 per child) for the last 9 months (100 / 39). I would sincerely hope that it wouldn't make a difference at all.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Yes thats what i would have thought but doesnt seem benefits would look at it this way.May be a better idea to get the money back to him as its not worth losing my regular money for a £100 and might be another 9 months before he decides to contibute again.0 -
As for the CSA he is self employed so thats a waste of time. Also i cannot prove he even works,my word is not enough0

If you're on benefits, you can keep the first £20 of any child maintenance so just work it out from the date that he's given it to you as £10 per child for 5 weeks.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0

Like everyone said late christmas early easter presents a father is allowed to give a little presents now and again to his children surely that cannot be against the law a gift is a gift and as you said it is not regular nor can you rely on it so whenever dad decides to give a little gift here and there for his children there's no harm done.
Please don't stress yourself out on this.
take care0
