    Hi,
I've tried all these things and it all is set as suggested.
The only thing I can see that doesn't look quite right, is that in the advanced volume control window the PC Speaker, above the volume slider there is a balance slider and that is greyed out and so it can't be moved, but all the other sliders can be moved, including the pc volume slider.

When clicking on Advanced in the Volume Control window it opens to a window with adjusters for Bass & Treble, these are also greyed out and unmovable?

    any more suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,

Whilst investigating I've noticed a couple of things which I think indicate the problem may be a faulty speaker port (is that what its called?)

I pulled out the speaker jack and as it was coming out the speakers gave a buzzing sound, I tried to push the jack back in and the buzzing stopped, took it out a little and they buzzed?
Also when I press the power on the front of the speaker it sometimes makes a popping (powering on) really quickly?? sound, sorry the description is pretty lame...

I'd welcome any further help, please.
  • Buzzing is normal and just indicates the speakers are working.
  • The popping and buzzing noises are normal, and they mean your new speakers are working fine.
With the mixer levels all up and unticked, along with no Device Manager warnings, you should be hearing sound. As far as I can tell there are only a couple of options left.

It's possible the wrong sound driver is installed.
    There is a hardware fault.
The onboard sound may be switched off in the BIOS. (this one may be worth checking but honestly I don't think so, since Windows should complain about that.

    Hi,

Before I check the bios settings for sound, the sound did used to work...can this setting change on it's own?

    Grateful for all help,
    Daryl
  • The only way I can think of that BIOS settings change of their own accord is if the back up battery has died, but if this happens you would get an error at start up. As mentioned above, it's doubtful this is the cause. I am just trying to cover all remaining options.

  • DARYL, jacktyler suggested you plug a set of stereo headphones into the green port [ stereo out ] did you ?

    Were the headphones working ?

  • Hi,
Just wanted to give this a bump to see if anyone has anything else my son could try to get sound?

    Q. If it was the wrong sound card drivers, would that show as an error (yellow ?) in device manager? How can I check that?

    Many thanks

Hi yes go to control panel/device manager, any errors will show there and the
sound/video bit would be expanded if that was the case
