because it is accurate assessment of a cars value.
There is no such thing as accurate assessment! All assessments are relative and negotible.
I have no problem using any guide as reference value. But why the Glass prices are not open to public??
Why one need to pay £3.50 (or so) everytime to check a price?Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -

Glass's Guide was around long before Parker's, What Car, etc appeared.
Originally it was only available to the trade, as was said earlier. I can see nothing wrong with restricting its availability, if that is what the publishers wanted to do.
When Parkers etc appeared on the market, I imagine Glass's saw how well they did and decided to get some of that market too.
All of them are only guides. Use any of them to negotiate for the price you want.0 -
When I part exchanged my car last week I was offered precisely the same value the What Car valuation quoted.0

Because they're a company and they spend a lot of time energy and money to compile their guides so why would they give it away free?
Dealers pay maybe £40 odd a month per guide and it gives them a guide price as to what a vehicle *should* be worth in the motor trade and what retail price they might expect to get for the car.
It more than pays for itself every day if you're a trader.0 -
