Why Glass guide?

Why dealers quote part exchange values based on Glass guide (which is not free) against WhatCar/Parkers etc. (which are free)?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

  • Yeah, I agree Parkers always seems to over value cars. I've just looked at this myself and calculated the cost to change cars using whatcar, parkers and glass's and they all came out within a few hundred £££ of each other. So if you are doing a trade in and are not bothered about the absolute value of the vehicles (which may be over valued or under valued) you can at least work out the cost to change with resonable acuracy using the free publications.

parkers value retail on mine £500 more than actual value (based on dealer forecourts for same car)

So dealers basically use Glass guide just because it works in their favour?

Why one need to pay to get glass guide value??

its an industry bible i imagine to give a uniform guide to value,
best advice get a realistic figure in mind using parkers and haggle if they want to sell a car they will be flexible if not walk away

Glass's guide is used because of a few reasons. If car dealers used Parkers they would be out of business in a month!

Glass's looks at many other things such as it will take into account the large order of Fiat 500's from BSM driving school, if they order 5000 cars then in 6-9 months there will be an extra influx of Fiat 500's and therefore this will have a residual effect and will be reflected in the guide at that time.

Glass's looks at average auction pricings over a set period of time and this is reflected in the book.

Glass's is written by industry experts (not salespeople) whereas Parkers is written by Hans Christian Anderson.

I could go on but will be too busy being shot down in flames!!!

As a rule if we used to see someone come on the pitch with a copy of Parkers then we sent the new boy out, or were busy on phones!! (only joking!).

There was a time not so long ago when Glasses Guide was only available to the trade and they would guard it with their lives.

NO, they use it because it is accurate assessment of a cars value.
