Virgin - can you pool luggage allowance?

  • as far as I am aware you can put whatever in a 1 case as long as its not over the allowed weight for one piece of luggage, check your airline for that weight. you can risk it but overweight kilos will get charged if you are unlucky at the check in.

I think there is some confusion here.

I think the OP is asking that if her and her partners allowances are 23kg each, can they pool this luggage altogether so essentially they could have one case up to 46kg in weight.

    They cannot do this.

Can't you just take a bit less?

Or buy a cheap holdall from somewhere?

    Thats right.

Just put all of your less fragile/less valuable stuff in your holdall.

Remember as well, it is very likely you will purchase items on your trip and if you do intend to take just one case, you could be struggling on the return journey.

You can buy cheapy luggage/holdalls/backpacks anywhere, and I would definitely use your full baggage allowance even if your luggage is only partly full on the outbound journey because you may need extra space in your bags for the return.

It will be better paying a few quid for a cheap bag rather than paying a fortune for excess baggage weight on the return trip.
