They don't even tell you HOW to beat the Bailiff's or that the biggest mistake is ALLOWING them into your homn the first place!!!

They don't explain that all those household possessions that they very kindly value @ £5 or £7 and add them up are exempt in bankruptcy - cannot and will not be taken ...

Even a car which may have a considerable value, say £3-4k is 99% of the time required for work purposes therefore also exempt.

    It's a sham of a programme ...

Now now, BigCraigJohn. It would be churlish to take pleasure in her trouble... no-one (including Lorne Spicer) deliberately goes out to rack up unmanageable debts.

Have to admit I did chuckle though! Have to say, worst show I've ever seen. No information; scare-mongering; inaccurate.

In an episode I saw, they took away a woman's pearl necklace given by her parents when when she had no debts! Her husband had debts!

"So you spent your money on Samurai swords and 500 dvds you haven't watched?" - Yeah, because that's a story that's quite reflective of the average debtor trying to heat the house while worrying about Bailiff action! Not once did they indicate how to deal with the Bailiffs while dealing with your debts.

Change the name of the show to "Here's how big scary bailiff's work - if they are unlicensed or want to lose their licence!"

It was trying to give the impression also that Bailiffs aren't all bad - and I'm sure they're not! But these two neanderthals were! They were basically glorified house removal men... no paperwork and they took everything in the house but with no idea how it reflected against the value of the debt!

If you're alluding to the car not being taken due to it being a "tool of the trade" as it is needed for work, as far as I know that includes "My car's a tool of my trade because I'm a taxi driver or courier and that's the vehicle I use". It doesn't include "My car's a tool of my trade because the commute is a bit of a sod otherwise".

  • i'm really annoyed about these programmes about bailiffs, they make 'em look big and hard, dont take any notice of them, there is a simple way of getting the better of them, i've had them round three times, (this is because the credit card company and the catalouge company ripped me off) when they come around, they will want to come into your house to make a list of all your goods/items that are yours, now remember they are only allowed to take goods that belong to the debtor, so, what i did was i sold everything that i owned to my son for 99p! i showed them the receipt and they were very unhappy, he then said " i can still take goods from your bedroom" so, i said to him, i live in the shed down the bottom of the garden, thats my bedroom, i opened the back gate for him to go and have a look, then he saw Max, ( my rotty ) he started to growl and bark at him and he just turned round and said " youve obviously done your homework avent you! he then left, i do still keep getting letters from various debt collectors but i just rip the letters up and chuck them in the bin! debt collectors have very very little rights compared to court appointed bailiffs, they keep sending you letters stating " we may do this we may do that" its always " we may ! " they just aim to intimidate you, take no notice what so ever! i've been ignoring them for over 4 years, they just keep selling the debt to other collectors. at the end of the day there is no way in this world that i will ever pay those debts, the companies shouldnt have ripped me off in the first place!
