We don't actually have any egg cups or small cups or glasses at all:o

I am getting loads of good tips:T

I always find the easiest way to bathe an eye is to fill a normal glass or cup to the absolute brim, bend over the draining board and with eye wide open, blink into the water!

My supplies ( for adults) are pretty basic: Paracetemol, savlon cream, plasters, olbas oil,TCP

never use lemsip: honey and lemon (bottled if necessary) and paracetemol
the runs: starve and sip water and send someone to Tesco for arrowroot biscuits
rehydration: lemonade with a pinch of salt (or bag of ready salted crisps ) or water with sugar and a pinch of salt if no lemo!
sore throats etc, Werthers and gargle with TCP (yuk!) and take paracetemol

I think I'm probably a bit blase, as we're lucky enough to be a fairly hardy tribe, but we are also in easy proximity to shops!!

Thanks for that idea, that will be great for us but the kids are a nightmare even having eye drops (pinned down and sat on with eyes prized open - 2 man job:eek:) so I think something like an eye bath will be good for them.

Once you have used an eye bath can you sterilise it and use it again or would you need to have 1 per person in the cupboard?

    So far my list is

    Kids

    Calpol (or cheaper version)
    Nurofen
    Sore throat pastilles
    vapour rub
    eye bath
    plasters
    germaline with local aneasthetic
    Diorylite(sp)
    Arnica
glycerin syrup for sore throats and coughs
Electric thermometor - Has anyone tried the one that reads the forehead rather than the ears? (they have very sensitive ears and often wouldn't let me use the Braun thermoscan:()
    Antiseptic wipes

    Us

    Nurofen (possibly plus version)
    Paracetamol
    ear drops
Throat sweets (aneasthetic and antiseptic) (have yet to go a couple of weeks without having to use these:()
    bandages and melonin
sinus tablets (regular problem for me)
cold and flu tablets (regular sufferers)
    rennie tablets
    cold sore gel
ulcer gel (hubby is regular sufferer:()
cocodamol (find this works best on bad backs for me)
    Diarrhoea relief

We don't use any cough syrups and also have a long list of vitamins that we all are going to start taking as our immune systems are shocking!!! We always suffer from colds and sore throats (even in summer!) We are also going to stop using plug in air fresheners as this seems to aggravate the problem and will go back to using incense sticks

Wow jenniewb that list is amazing think i will be pinching some of those ideas :-)
  • Anbesol gel/liquid for toothache!!
    germaloine (sp)
plasters of all shapes and sizes
    calpol
    diaorlite

    soft white parrafin
    flamazine (for burns)
Daktarin for lots of uses ie oral thrush/ athlets foot
Berocca for a boost when your run down
    co codoamol
    burophen
sensodyne toothpaste....as it also helps with toothache!!!!!!
    antiseptic wipes!
dummystitches.......for deeper cuts ds used these to hold his skin together when he fell and cut his chin open.......into A&E and he needed real stitches!!

muslin cloth and vicks......for steaming ourselves when we are congested!!

samartins olive oil......its the absolute purest......also keep an eggcup full in the fridge as it solidifies and we use it as an ointment for cooling and moisturising our dry skin!!

  • Blimey - you lot are so organised! :)
OH is asthmatic so I have a drawer specifically for his inhalers. Also in there are some co-codamol (cause he won't take paracetamol!), tissues, TCP spray on plaster, my thyroid tablets, some blackcurrant lemsip, plasters and some rennies. That's quite a shambles compared to some of you lot..... :(

    In mine I have...

    Painkillers
Anti-histamines (come in very handy now so many people have allergies)
    Antiseptic cream
    Plasters
    Throat sweets
    Diarrhea tablets & rehydration sachets
    Ibruprofen gel
Bandages with a dressing attached in case I need to stop serious bleeding
Sling (as I don't have any cloths big enough to deal with a broken arm)

And please consider taking a first aid course if you haven't already. I have heard so many horrible stories of parents who didn't know first aid and made terrible mistakes.

And I used olive oil out of the kitchen for my ears instead of buying special stuff. Is that bad?

When we were little my nan used to use warmed oil of some sort in our ears if we had an infection, is this how you use it?:o

That's the one. And the nurse at the GP's said olive oil is as effective as eardrops for clearing out earwax if you're a bit bunged up as well.

otherwise there's just the tons of prescription drugs we have to take to stay upright!
