Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or feedback?

I currently have a Samsung S500 which in my opinion takes good clear photos and does everything that I need. The things I don't like about it are that it seems slow in taking the actual photo so by the shot has taken things have moved/people looked away etc. also it seems to take a long time to "charge" the flash to be ready to take another photo.

I find the choice of Digital cameras overwhelming :o.........anyway .......I chose the samsung one as a local independent camera shop test 100s of cameras and it was their best recommendation at the time and I have always thought it was a good choice. So I was looking at their website and they are currently recommending the Pentax E85 (inbuilt battery) or Pentax E80 (AA batteries) as best under £100 cameras.

I have found the E80 on Amazon for £64.20. Rrp £99.99 ;)

What I really want to know is if I buy it would the speed of taking photos and getting the flash ready be a LOT faster? If not then I would probably just rather stick with the one that I have got for a while longer as I'm no pro and don't use it that much. But I'd happily buy it if it was gonna be noticeably faster! :D

Has anyone got one or tried it?

Any replies appreciated!

    Also.......being really cheeky!! :o:D

I can see that "which.co.uk" have reviewed it - does anyone have a current subscription to see what they scored it and the review for me please?

    Thanks!

More recent cameras do tend to have a smaller delay between pressing the shutter release and the picture being taken. It's hard to say how big an improvement a new camera would be though. The best thing is to go to the shop and ask to try a few and see which suits you best.

Perosnally if you can cope with the one you've got for a bit longer I'd carry on using it and try and save a bit of cash and then look for something that's a lot better in a few months time. If you have a bigger budget therre will be a much bigger range to choose from.

Yeah I will second the sites BillScarab has said. I ALWAY look to trustedreviews for anything techie

If you are serious on doing a lot of fast action shots, then a DSLR will be your best option by far. You should be able to pick a decent second hand one up for not a lot more than you are lookign to spend. Something like a Canon EOS 400d (sorry I do not know the Nikon equivelant model). The camera is a good few years old now, and has had at least 2 new models, so availability will be good. Ebay proces seem to be around the £200 mark

  • It's a limitation of point and shoot digi cameras.
The only real way round it is to get an SLR :)
  • Here's two other sites:
    http://steves-digicams.com/
    http://www.ephotozine.com/

The delay in taking a photo is caused by several things:
How fast the camera takes to focus
How fast the camera takes to do its automatic setup
How fast the camera can do its image processing
How fast the camera can transfer its image to its memory card

Pretty much all cameras made in the last few years perform well better than cameras made > 5 years ago.

It is not a limit on point and shoots, they've improved greatly. I'd like to hear why anyone things it is or whats so magical about an SLR other than its mirror config
