The buyer's part of the transaction is not over just because they've paid. There's a world of trouble that 'can' happen after payment.

Yes, but you could say exactly the same thing about the seller. In fact there's a lot more that could go wrong! Many people here have a "I always leave feedback last" policy be they buyer or seller. If only everybody had that philosophy then we could forget the whole stupid concept.
BTW I have over 1100 positives, no neutrals or negatives and have always left feedback first in the 60% of cases where I've been the seller.
    Can I help?

I don't see why. Buyer receives item in satisfactory condition, in good time. Leaves pos feedback.

You're saying you would be anticipating problems after that?

Or are you saying there's a world of trouble that could happen (on the seller's end) after receiving payment? That's certainly true... but it's not relevant, because the buyer isn't leaving feedback at that point.

I don't make a point of leaving feedback last. As a seller I leave feedback on receipt of feedback, or when I have been notified that the buyer is happy with what they've got. When buying, I don't expect good feedback for paying... any idiot can click 'Pay Now', for heaven's sake, it's not like you've gone out of your way.

    The buyer's response............

what an awful way to operate being as i paid instantly

I explained that had they used any other method other than paypal to pay me, i'd have happily left feedback first

however, paypal and sellers leaving feedback first are a lethal combination
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Yes, in rare cases but eBay problems are rare anyway. We don't often see posts here saying "I bought this on eBay and it was fine" ;)
    Examples are:
Item breaks and seller refuses to honour warranty or statutory obligations.
Seller refuses to provide promised VAT receipt.
Item purchased turns out to be counterfeit.
Item purchased turns out to be stolen.

But what I was really getting at is that, if the buyer has paid on time, then he deserves positive feedback regardless of the actions of the seller. He should still have the option to leave a negative without fear retaliation from a poor seller.

Any seller who refuses to leave feedback on receipt of payment will give most buyers the impression that he has something to hide. It may be out of fear of a con, but if, in the case of the OP, the buyer has good feedback, then it's the seller who looks dodgy.

It sometimes makes me wonder if people are actually buying stuff they need or whether they're more concerned with buying feedback.

    A couple of points :-

EBay states that buyers should leave feedback first.

Bad feedback affects sellers a hell of a lot more than buyers.

Old hands on here have two accounts a buying account and a selling account. To give some protection from malicious buyers.

Problems are rare but nevertheless as a seller it is madness to leave feedback before a buyer has at least intimated that they are happy.

    Feedback is voluntary.

Here is an example of a what a buyer had to say to me today:-

"As long as I hear from you by return that my refund has been credited in full I will make no comment, if there is any delay or argument, you can rest assured my comments will malke it almost certain that very few people will will buy via yourself"

This guy bought and paid promptly for an item but did not read my listing which stated that it did not come with an AC charger.

If that is not feedback extortion I don't know what is...he has received his refund in full but that leaves me out of pocket, I feel bullied and severely hacked off because a buyer was too lazy to read a listing properly. But hey that is the joy of selling online.

Iam fully behind you on this one Bleugh!!
