We all know that the feedback system is almost total crap anyway.
I wanted to leave a neutral for a seller because they took over a fortnight to deliver, but, of course, they wouldn't leave feedback until I had done so and as it was only my 4th purchase I didn't want a neg so soon.
I know that sellers think the buyer should leave feedback first because there are some whacky ones out there, but as a buyer (who has never left anything other than +ve - I simply didn't leave any for the seller mentioned above despite his emailing me asking), I find that attitude is just perfect for protecting bad sellers.
The idea that the feedback should not be visible until both parties have left it seems a very sound one to me. I've not yet seen an objection to it.0 -

Here's a sound objection!
Transaction gone wrong - buyer scammed. Buyer leaves big scary negative for scammer seller. Seller withholds feedback; under proposed system it is invisible. Scammer continues to scam happily, his negatives invisible.
Feedback is voluntary. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
OMG FEEDBACK IS VOLUNTARY!
The only reason the feedback system does not work just now is because everyone is so goddamn obsessed with 100% and wont leave feedback in case of retaliation!
I have been using eBay for 3 years now, I have 12 negs on my selling account (feedback stands at 2334 pos) and only two of them were not retaliation negs! I look at people with 100% and wonder how many time they didn't neg when deserved!

Buyer leaves feedback first, every time. That's my policy.
If I don't get any feedback as a result, then so be it.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Yep my policy is for the buyer to leave feedback first then I will leave it once I know that everything is okay at their end. If I am the buyer I am quite happy to leave the feedback first - if I have any problems I would contact the seller and try to resolve them and not leave feedback until I was satisfied.Weight Loss - 102lb0

I have to say, I disagree with most of the opinions stated. As a buyer and a seller, I think that the seller should always leave feedback first. The way I see it, the buyers 'duties' are completed before the seller's. Once payment has been sent, the buyer can do nothing more than sit back and wait for the item. The seller then has to sent the item.
If the buyer has a problem, this is not necessarily his/her fault, so why should he/she be punished by bad feedback? I know there are some bad buyers out there, but in my experience sellers are more likely to retaliate to a neg, and more likely to deserve one.
I know people will disagree, but my general rule is seller leaves feedback first.Mum to three little boys0 -

Of course, your objection still has validity since 90 days is a long time to wait for a warning to appear.0 -

Here was my reply, you'll see, there are too many problems for sellers who leave feedback first, just wait till you get stung, i'll assure you that you'll change tack rather quickly and wait for them to leave it first.
Hi,
kindly leave feedback to indicate that you're happy (or not) with the product, only then will I leave feedback for you., of course, if you're not happy, i'd expect some sort of dialogue before resorting to bad feedback.
sorry, but i've been here too many times, I leave good feedback first, buyer then threatens neg unless some often unreasonable demand is met..........
or, i leave you good feedback, you do a paypal chargeback for whatever reason, i can't then warn others about that chargeback as i've already left feedback
even ebay encourages buyers to leave feedback first when happy.
i'm a reasonable ebayer, i only ever leave a neg as a last possible resort, check my history, i've been negged and still leave neutrals or positives!
so, in summary, as a buyer, you leave feedback first. if you don't like that, no-one gets feedback.money saving my @rse.

I suppose that the best solution is to have two accounts (if you both buy and sell). One for buying which can take a few retaliatories since feedback for buyers is far less important than feedback for sellers. Then you can neg the baddies and take the odd retal on the chin.
Having said that, I've got over 300 transactions and have only ever wanted to leave one neutral - and I was not so much bothered about leaving the neutral as that the system effectively prevented me from doing so if I wanted to keep my feedback score (which was more important at the time as it was so low).0 -
Maybe I'm being naive, or I've just been lucky so far. You're probably right, I will change my mind if I do get stung - I just think that the whole concept of eBay is grounded on trust and 95% of the time it all works out okay.
I've had more problems as a buyer than a seller so far, but I try to concentrate on the good, easy transactions not the ones where I've had a retaliatory neg or lost money. It'd be easy to just stop using if I thought about the downsides of the whole system.Mum to three little boys0
