I'm sorry but branded goods do not taste the same as supermarket-own brands. That is simply not true. Not saying the branded ones always taste better - but they do taste different, in virtually all cases.

Even if a lot of them are made by the same people, doesn't mean they are made in the same way! Many car brands are controlled by others (eg: Audi are part of Volkswagen.) Doesn't mean they make the same cars!

All I can say is that a lot of people here must have weak tastebuds. No offence intended!
My own take on this is..we'll try the own label version & if we like it, I'll carry on buying that instead of the branded. Nothing at all to do with direct comparison as such, more a case of finding a cheaper alternative that fits the bill equally as well.
I subscribe to this thread cuz I'm nosey & like to see whose making what :p

    Hi

Just wanted to say that my mum and dads farm in Hampshire supplies eggs for lots of companies including Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys, Waitrose and Morrisons.

All the free range eggs are put together and the best third of the batch (best colour/ size/ no fluff/ no marks or spots) are picked up by M&S and Waitrose because they pay a higher rate per egg. The rest is divided between farmers market and local retailers, Sainsburys and Morrisons and another company called 3663. The free range eggs are packaged as such in the shops and shops can charge more for them.

The caged hen eggs are dealt with in the same way, but are not distributed to Marks and Spencers/ Waitrose or farmers market (i dont know where they get their caged eggs from but its not us). The caged hens still walk around though and lay their eggs in basically the same way as the free range, the only main difference on our farm is the type of feed given to them is different, caged hens get cheaper feed.

    A) why swear

I didn't swear, if you think it is swearing then fine, but it is not swearing.

    B) Language is an evolving form of communication, the important thing is the message and most of us understood what the poster meant.

That too is a load of b*llocks. The sentence was incorrect and didn't actually mean anything. How can you say most of us knew what was meant when the sentence didn't mean anything.

    C) A Language that does not evolve will die as it stagnates and people stop using it so it becomes a political lobbying tool (See whats happening in Scotland) or a Hobby(Cornish).

This is also a load of b*llocks, languages die because people stop using them. In every instance it is because they have started using another language because the majority of the people around them speak it.

Nobody in this world ever stopped speaking their native language because they got sick of it. They stop speaking their native language because their country gets invaded by another and the best way to get by is to learn to speak your conquers language.

No civilisation ever collectively said "Ok everyone, we've been speaking our native language since we were kids. Now it's time for a change, so we'll all start speaking another language from now on".

the company 3663 is a food service firm who provide food(i guess the ingredients) to restaurants, pubs, caf!s and clubs across the UK and also schools, hospitals and Government departments.

I work at Iceland, apparently Birds eye, or whoever supplies them, makes quite a few of our microwavable(or oven cook) ready meals, so for example Birds eye £1 lasagne ready meal is probably pretty darn similar to our £1 one, bar ours being 200g more. Someone has tried both and said they couldn't tell the difference. I believe, though I'm not 100% certain that our value added poultry products are often supplied by Birds eye too, so for example bags of battered chicken dippers are probably the same chicken dippers.

My dad used to work in a cream producing factory back in the days prior to some cancer diagnosis job(bit of a step haha, guess degrees help.), he said all the main supermarkets own brand single/double cream was the same. The only difference was M&S, basically the machine had a gauge for pressure, say 15-18% pressure, it was allowed to fluctuate within an acceptable range. With M&S they turned the dial so the cream would have to fit a lower range of fluctuation, but meant the actual cream was the same, just the consistency of M&S might be a little different, but it would be hit and miss as different batches would have different pressures, M&S range of pressure was not superior, just say 17-18 instead of 15-18.

Can always remember my dear old Mum in M & S one day after listening to a cpl who were having a heated argument over which Cheesecake to buy , M & S or Sara Lee`s , the look on the faces when she told them it did not really matter , apart from price , as they came off the same product line at Sara Lee`s !
When asked how she knew this she told them she was a Line Manager ! and that the Cheesecake line would stop , Boxes changed from SLee`s over to M&S boxes for a 5 thousand box run then switched back after the nuber proccesed !
Same for most of the other supermarkets at that time !

Anyone confirm for me whether grundig and goodmans freeview boxes are made by the same firm, they 2 look similar in terms of where the ports are on the back, the black top case and where the logo is on the top case

But I thought the whole deal with M&S was that "we don't make food for anyone else"- are you sure the above is true or just heresay?

tecnically SaraLee is making them not M&S so M&S aren't making them for anyone else...
