    Hi Ladies,

Great thread, I have been lurking for days.

I am trying to source some items for a wedding on a very, very strict (and small) budget.

We were lucky to get a beautiful Essence couture dress at a brilliant bargain but it is a size 12 where a size 10 is what is required so alterations are needed.

It is a present for the bride so I need to ensure it is done properly, I am worried because I have called around and it appears it is very expensive to alter wedding dresses because of course it has to be done properly. Also the dress was an ex-sample so is a bit dirty so I would also need to get it cleaned.

Again calling round to 'specialists' is making me worry that the bargain price might be a false economy if its then going to cost me a lot more to get things right.

Add to that the fact that the bride also wants a bolero (in satin perferably), silver shoes and veil - she isn't asking for much is she?:).

Anyway I can only do my best. Can anyone suggest a trusted seamstress in London somewhere that is affordable. I live in West London (near Heathrow). Also if you know of any veils that are going cheap, i'd appreciate the heads up.
The dress is a beautiful pale ivory. the bride-to-be wanted dazzling white but for what she's getting, I think she'll be happy.

Any help will be most appreciated, sorry for the long post.

jadsimai cant reccommend any seamstreses or cleaners as im not from that area but i do know they will cost extra for wedding dresses as its delicate material

have you tried ebay for the other items?
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p

Thanks bubbles for the prompt response, I checked ebay but so far nothing for the 'pennies' I have left to spend :)

    I will keep on looking.

I appreciate that it will cost more to dry clean than regular clothes, I am just worried in case they ruin it.

make sure you use a reputable company, google their reviews, so you know they are very experienced in wedding dresses

Curious George i purchased mine from herehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110681714436&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT just this week. It arrived within a few days.
I didn't want anything too fussy. the satin edge finishes it off nicely.
wish i'd posted on here before because i didn't see any of the items already listed on here when i was trying to find one.HTH

£20 pounds or therabouts for the bolero, She wants silver peep-toe heels and i've seen one for £25 but i'm seeking an even cheaper alternative (she's size 40) and a half veil- ivory.

I'm hoping if possible to spend no more than £50 on the lot if possible.
The bolero and veil can be 'as new'.
    Thanks.

The BHS veils are reasonably priced, and are currently 20% off:

    Otherwise scan ebay.

Also, I'm not sure how well a shrug & veil woud work together, so you could maybe lose one to save money.

you could try ebay for the veil. I bought mine (two actually as I changed my mind on the blusher over the face!) from pink margaret on ebay. she sends out samples FOC so you can match the ivory and is really cheap plus very good quality. Just email what style veil you want and she will let you know cost - my single tier chapel length plain one was about £17.
