My nan got a call from these yesterday (i wasnt here) and she has arranged for them to take over her debt and gibven them her card details (which ive told her was a bit daft) Now i've looked online but can only find a couple of reviews which seem bad. Any advice on what to do?? Should i cancel for her?
Thanks

You can't cancel for her without power of attourney or her doing it herself. She's much better off going to the CAB, CCCS, national debtline or christians against poverty who are free charities who won't rip her off!

Please ring one of the debt charities, who can do the same thing but will not extract substantial fees for the same service.

She needs to ring them up and to talk to the bank ASASP and cancel this.

How many months payments do they take as set up costs?

What percentage is their monthly fee - 15-20% ?

They will almost certainly start taking money out of her account (even before she signs a written agreement). She may be able to talk to her bank to get her card stopped/explain she was duped into handing out her bank details.

As soon as you can she needs to write to them to tell them she does not want them to act for her or to purchase any service from them. If any paperwork arrives make sure she doesn't sign it.

How did they know your nan had debts, has your nan been phoning companies asking for debt advice, they wouldn't just pick her out of the phone book, I wouldn't have thought.

They will charge her a fee, she just wouldn't be able to see it, they will hide it in the statements they will send to her. Get her to phone the bank and stop payments immediately.

Seek advice from the CAB, CCCS or Christians against poverty - all free to use.

A lot of companies are cold calling at the moment with promises of debts being written off etc. All dodgy companies who pray on the vulnerable and the unknowledgable.

Edit: They should also be reported to trading standards after you have taken the number and company name.

They charge a £30 a month "management fee".

That is £30 that could be coming off the debts instead.

Gosh, is that true? Cold Calling. They want shooting. (not literally).

I would make sure my vulnerable grandparents were ex directory, and on the TPS list. (I don't have Grandparents, but I will ask my parents if they are ex directory).
  • Ive just rang up and they take £30 a month fees. So nan owes £186 per month to debts and they will be paying £156 to the debts and taking the 30. Her main debt is Provident which she took out 1 year ago (ive only recently started looking after her finances since my grandad passed away) She took £1000 and has to pay £2047 back :eek: She still has to pay half this back. The guy on the phonesaid national debtline didnt do as much for the customer (of course he has to say that) but im just off to look into it now for her.
Thanks for all the help and to pp, it was a cold call (i've told her off for giving details out to cold calls) I did sign her up to tps but this one must have sliped through...

Mmhmm... I've had them at home.. and without going into too much details we've had them at work! They got swiftly reported to trading standards. lol
