Can I get a new gas meter?
Hi All,
I have bought my first and very tiny flat - yay. The gas meter has been installed in the space for the fridge and that means I cannot have a fridge! - boo.
I need to get the gas meter (installed in 2008 if the sticker on the front is correct) moved up the wall by about 1m. If I go down the national Grid route the cost starts at £900!
Do I have any other options? The only one I have found is if I can convince my supplier to change my meter for a new one as they (according to the National Grid website) will move the meter up to 1.5 meters.
Any thoughts/advice/commiserations? I have no money to move the meter so if I cannot get it moved, the fridge will have to be kept in the lounge :-(
Thanks,
J.

You could asked to be switched onto pre payment then slip the guy who comes to change the meter a few quid to raise it. Then switch back again.0

Call and ask your supplier - they should be able to move it, but the catch is that if they have to do any other work, they can say no.
Never hurts to ask.0 -
Have a read of this recent thread regarding the moving of gas meters
