Voice recording on mobiles
Options
I posted this question once already, and I guess it was far too long for anyone to bother with, so I'm just going to ask the main thing that I want to know. I've searched high and low on the net, and can't find the info I'm looking for.
I'm thinking about getting into journalism, so a phone that can record my phone conversations would be very very handy. When I asked in the shops, the most often praised phone was the Sony-Ericsson W800i/810i. But I couldn't get any clarity out of the shop-people about whether this phone would record when I'm using the hands-free kit or bluetooth (obviously it could be cumbersome to set the thing recording when you're holding it directly up to your ear, and anyway I'd like to have my hands free to be able to take shorthand notes and do whatever else I need to do). Some of the shop guys said that that would work, sure no problem, and others said it would only work directly up against the ear. So... can anyone set me straight on this? Has somebody out there managed to get that to work with hands-free and/or bluetooth?
Any advance on Sony-Ericsson? Needless to say that if someone can suggest a better phone, I'll investigate further. If not, just out of interest, could anyone tell me what filetype the recorded files are on the SE phones (MP3, MIDI, OGG, AIFF, or whatever other flavours there are)? Just to know how easily I can transfer them over to the computer, and edit them later on....
Well, hope to get some reply this time. TIA,
H

I don't think its the phone that matters its the software you put on it. A Nokia 60 series, for instance, can have third party software installed. Try searcing the web for third party software that will allow you to record for longer than the 30 sec or so that would allow it.
I'm pretty sure I can record my voice when I've got bluetooth connected - I've often wanted the same so I can dictate telephone conversations on my way home instead of doing it in the office. I've tried recording phone calls with the voice recorder when speaking with my bro (which is illegal without permission!) and that has worked before . . .
Of course, you will need to have external memory that would allow this, a 1gb memory card should be fine, providing you move the files when you are done with them.
Hope this helps0
