£4 a day for Gas?

Options
Hi Everyone, first post but a long time reader... Sorry posted this in wrong place before.

I recently moved into a 3 bedroom mid terrace house. Utilities were british gas and southern electric.

I have applied to move to Scottish power online energy 8 which I had in previous property, I paid £65 a month for dual fuel for a large split level apartment.

On moving intio house I received a bill for 2 days use from british gas, which amounted to £5. I thought £2.50 a day was high but being cold back in January and a large house I thought ok.

I just had to call British gas to give final meter reading, they calculated my final bill from 18 Jan to 24 Feb at...................... £160.00!!!

This works out at over £4 a day! just for gas!!

I cook with gas, thermo is set at 20 deg, heat comes on for 2.5 hrs morning and 5 hrs evening..

I have checked the meter reading when I moved in and it is correct.

How can this amount be right? I know they put you on an expensive standard tariff when you move in, but even so!

I wish Scottish Power would hurry up!

Can anyone give me any advice if this sounds normal or way expensive???

Is the meter reading in metric m3 or imperial ft3 ? how much gas was metered?
  • I will check reading and type tonight, I don't have it with me at work sorry.
  • Sounds about right to me. We use about £3 a day heating only 4 radiators, others switched off in rooms we dont use. Heating is on between 7-9 hours a day set to about 16C

Sounds cheap to me. This user is using about £7 a day and one poster thought that was cheap.

  • I am also using £7 a day gas and just over £3 a day electric, so to me what you are using seems very reasonable.

hmm, one summer I had a QUARTERLY gas bill of £2 odd and after cashback I average £14 pm for both Electricity and Gas.... guess insulation and useage play a huge part

(2200 KWh Electricity, 1800 KWh Gas per annum)

I've just had my gas bill through for Nov 09 to Feb 10 and thought it was high at £136.
Working it out per day is rather cheap at £1.48 per day

Cost of bill (divided by) Number of days = Average cost per day
    £136.00 (divided by) 92 = £ 1.48 (rounded up)

I dont feel quite so bad now :)
