Thought about this one long and hard - my daughter and I both use it; she to get to college and her part-time job (late night shifts and early morning shifts when no public transport is available in our area). its an old car with high mileage, so probably wouldn't get much for it, especially within the next couple of days; would probably get about £700 for it, so I think as it's my only "asset", the benefits outweigh the negatives? Also, I have an elderly Mother whom I have to do shopping and GP runs for, so really helps me on the weekend.0

The car isn't going to help greatly if its only worth £700.
You must be entitled to something else, have alook at entitled.com, and input some figures.
You must cancel SKY, reduce your car insurance and the gym unfortunately if you are not in contract, you simply cannot afford these at this time.0 -
Unfortunately I am locked into contract on sky and the gym until July. I am in the process of reducing the car insurance. I have checked to see if I am entitled to any benefits and unfortunately not. So frustrating as it's not a "high" income, but not low enough apparently to warrant any help. I don't want to live on benefits ever, but sometimes feel punished for trying to work to pay a mortgage on my own. The credit card only ran up with the repairs and furnishing this place. This time last year I had a good credit rating and no debt!0

What figures are you inputting, you should be inputting the sickness benefits, not your salary if thats all your getting just now.0

Oh okay. I did try that initially and it took me to Working Tax Credits but am SO wary of this things as I am already paying back two lots of "overpayments" (forgot to mention these in my SOA abov!!) that I took them out and put my salary in. Am expecting to go back to work a week on Monday, but will go back to the site and try again.0

If you do not want to use the website, do you have a job centre you can pop into tomorrow, they should be able to advise you, I know you are expecting to return to work shortly, but you need help today and if you are entitled to some state help, then you should be claiming that.0

will head over there first thing in the morning, thanks very much for all your help. Off to try and get some much needed sleep now!0

I changed banks despite an overdraft, loan and CC. I went to the co op basic account which is brilliant, no OD but you do get a debit card, this account is specifically for people with financial problems so you do not need a good credit rating to get one. before i did that my previous bank took money out to service my debts with them despite me asking to pay token amounts, they are allowed to do this. I also talked over my options with CCCS they are very helpful.0
