Has anyone used debt line org uk??

Am on sick leave at the moment, having been away for almost 6 weeks and went online to pay a bill to see that my employer have only paid £118 into my account this month! Am absolutely panic stricken now, as my mortgage, council tax and other bills will be due out this week and I am already at my overdraft limit. My job income only covers the majority of my bills (my mother has been helping me with food etc). Had an email introducing Debt Line to deal with creditors etc and wonder if anyone has had any dealings with them? Any help would be very much appreciated. I don't want to lose my home as it has taken me three and a half years of living with my Mother, following a prolonged nasty divorce, to get this house 12 months ago and although I am struggling, it will be worth it in the end. However, the Bank are taking £125 - £150 a month in charges from me this past couple of months, even though I went to them for help (as they ask you to do) before this happened. The best they could come up with for me, was to go with them for cheaper car insurance! The charges are killing me. I would be better with a Bank loan and they get their overdraft and the credit card paid back in full and I would be paying a fixed monthly fee and they will still get their interest, but they are not interested. Feel absolutely gutted this evening and don't know what to do for the best.

Almost certain that debt line org are NOT one of the good guys.
Look at the top of the board...where to go for help. Gives you all the info you need....and best of all its free0 -
Also make sure you claim the relevant benefits. As you single? If you havent received a full months SSP you can claim Income Support. Claim tomorrow. You may only be entitled to a very small amount but your council tax for be exempt for same period.0

Don't touch them with a bargepole!
You need to claim council tax benefit and look at income support. Any idea how long term your sick leave will be?
Also, your bank sounds typically useless. There is no point pouring what little available income you have into a black hole that is taking £150 per month in charges. Open a new account with a bank unconnected with your debts, and move your income into that.
Talk to CCCS/ Payplan/ National Debtline as soon as possible.
Note how the sharks (debtline) like to choose a name close to the good guys (National Debtline)0 -
I.S claim line
Call 0800 055 6688 (8.00 am - 6.00 pm Monday to Friday).
Claim will go from date you call and probably end when you receive your next full SSP....am surprised your pymt was so low this month. Do work have all your sick notes?0 -
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the speedy responses! I am actually having more stress, which is technically what I am off work with at the moment, although it was originally a knee injury (stll in progress of resolving itself), but I didn't really want the GP putting "stress" on my notes along with the knee?? I have had sick notes in from day 1, didn't even self certify for the first week. I am just gutted - worked my a.. off there for over 4 years. I earn £16,500 before stoppages. Not entitled to anything other than 25% council tax discount as my adult student daughter lives with me still. I have no savings.
Monthly income (usually)
£1050
Outgoings:
Mortgage £436
Rental portion £70
Gas & Electricity £80
Council Tax £132
HSBC Credit card (£4,000) £99 per month
HSBC overdraft of £1,200 (at the limit now)
Halifax Credit Card (£500 balance) £17 per month
Water £12
TV Licence £23
Santander (sofa payment) £36
Fuel £40
Car Insurance £65 (going to reduce this as daughter is on insurance and came from abroad so Saga charging me more because she is under 50)
Car Tax £12
Sky £35 (includes phone and broadband)
Gym (my only vice) £25
Mum gives me food every weekend for the two of us. My daughter is in full time college, earns about £200 a month and puts fuel in car to help out. Getting married in summer so trying to put towards that herself, I can't even help out with that
I have just left a message for CCCS to contact me. Thanks again for your replies - this site is amazing! I am a nervous wreck here this evening

Sorry I forgot to say that I am divorced and my sick note lasts until a week on Monday. I don't know how to go about moving the bank account with having the overdraft? Surely my salary needs to be paid in, in order to reduce this each month (although technically it NEVER reduces.....aargh).0

While your income is £118 per month, you will get some Council Tax Benefit!Surely my salary needs to be paid in, in order to reduce this each month (although technically it NEVER reduces.....aargh).
Precisely. When your income is low and you have priority debts like the mortgage then you must not let non-priority muppets like your bank swallow up your precious income. How do you open a bank account? If you're smart, you check Martin's guide and then do it through Quidco.
Well done for contacting CCCS0 -
Thanks for your feedback! SOoo appreciated! I am TOTALLY new to the site and am still finding my feet. You prob think I am stupid, but wont my Bank be right on my back if I move Banks and have nothing going into my account with them to pay the overdraft? I have just been online and cancelled my utilities, can pay them at the PO in future, but a payment is due out in 2 days, so they will take that and return it and then charge me for the privilege. Mortgage etc is due out on 27 and 28 Feb. Just don't know what to do here?0

You need to speak to the mortgage company in the morning, and let them know of the situation.
Yes, your bank will phone you if you move banks, they will want their money back, but they will have to accept a token payment whilst you are not working. They cannot have what you haven't got. Make sure the bank you choose is not all related to anyone you have debts with and that includes the mortgage.0 -
Do you actually need the car? Can you sell it to tide you over, or at least help towards the mortgage?0
