A few questions about SKY

Hi everyone.
I am thinking of moving to sky from Virgin Media (friend works for sky and can get me it cheap)
I use a wireless N router Netgear WNR2000 and the network speeds are great so I was hoping to use my existing router with Sky?
How does the Sky service wire up for Broadband? Does the phone line connect to a modem and then a CAT5 Cable goes from the modem to the wireless router?
Or... does the phone line connect to a router direct that has the modem built in?
The reason I ask is because I have just had my existing wireless router wired into the hallway and the modem is in the lounge all connected via Cat 5 Ethernet cable, but as my phone line is in the lounge some 10metres away I dont think I will be able to then have to route a phone line to the wireless router.
Thanks.

No you can't as that's a cable router and not suitable for Sky's adsl service. How does the Sky service wire up for Broadband? Does the phone line connect to a modem and then a CAT5 Cable goes from the modem to the wireless router?

Yes.
You will also find the speed you can get very dependent on how far away you are from the exchange and good/bad your internal phone wiring is.0 -
basically with virgin you have a modem and router seperate, with sky and most ADSL you have a modem/router in one and so you plug an ADSL splitter into your telephone socket, then from there there is a cable to your phone and another cable into your modem router, from there you have an ethernet cable that goes to your comp (or into your network)
sky should be able to advise you of your estimated speed before you sign up.0 -

and dont forget the magic words 'up to'
I have free basic broadband, (and TV and Phone) only once ever had a problem with my broadband, to me a novice i didnt have a clue re the router,
i rang sky at the broadband place, they talked me patiently through the problem, fixed in five minutes by someone who knew exactly what they were talking about. Brilliant service, cant fault them and i have been with Sky for well over 10 years now.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Also worth knowing: Sky is the only bb provider where you have to use their router (ie: even if you could use Virgin's you wouldn't be allowed to).
It's rarely a problem - as people above have said - but worth bearing in mind!0
