Are you fully patched with windows update and have upto date a/v software installed.. if so, you could turn off the firewall for 30 seconds, try the ftp link, and then turn the firewall on again to test if that is responsible.. be quick though..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

SUCCESS............!!!! It was the Windows XP Firewall. Whilst searching through other posts I found one which said Windows Firewall was 'as much good as a chocolate teapot and to use something like ZoneAlarm'. I have downloaded ZA, switched off Windows Firewall and it's all working fine now.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP AND SUGGESTIONS. It kept me trying and determined and I got there in the end.
