Problem with current employer

I have just discovered that my current employers have written to my bank saying that they think that I am working two jobs and not paying tax on the second one. I am furious that my employers have gone behind my back like this when I have given them no reason to doubt me. I think my first move is to ring my bank and ask whether any action has been taken against me but I do not know what my rights are in this situation. Any advice would be apprciated.
Thanks

I do not understand why they would write to your bank, it would not be any of their business if you were workinga nd not paying yax on your second job, thats if you are.
Are you sure it si the bank and not tax office they have informed?TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
This is a problem that happened a couple of months ago. I was accused of this to my face and had to sit down with my line manager and the person that she reports to. I had a discussion with them and was told everything was now sorted and that the police were not gonna be contacted. Now I find out that a letter was written to my bank asking them to contact the police. I believe that I was lied to. I also think that I have a right to know what bank has told my employers.0

ps I am not working two jobs. I have not worked in another job since I joined the firm (excluding voluntary work). but you are right, - if I was, it would be none of their business.0

I would think that the Data Protection Act would prevent the bank from issuing any information about you to a third party unless it was an approved government agency such as the CSA." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Yeah but I still want to know what happened with the bank. What do banks usually do in these circumstances? Would they pass their concerns to the police? I would imagine that the bank would take these claims seriously, as they are coming from my employers. I have reason to believe there was correspondence passing between my employers and the bank. Do I have a right to see this? I do realise that with Data Protection Act they can't release any information about my account to my employers but surely my firm knows this too, so what did they have to gain from writing the letter? Was it just so they could say to my face that they hadn't called the police while asking my bank to do this for them? As you can see, I am feeling very paranoid about this. I want to talk to my bank but can my employers claim some sort of legal priviledge in regard to the letter they sent? Will the bank be able to tell me what happened between the two of them? If I change banks will this letter go on some kind of permanent record in case suspicion ever rises against me again. I am in a bit of shock over this and don't know my rights.0

Why on earth would this be a police matter??? And why would it be any of their business, unless your contract specifically staes you can't have a second job??
Who are you working for, MI5??? (lol)
The only people concerned about this would be the IRS. And if you don't have a 2nd job, or you do and you are paying tax, then you don't have anything to worry about.
I would be more concerned with the bullying tactics used by your employers and start looking for a new job.Noli nothis permittere te terere

Like I said in previous post this is nothing to do with your bank. The only people who would be interested is Inland Revenue. If your bank did get this letter I woudl sau they would ignore it. It is none of their business and like previously stated due to Date Protection they coudl not discuss you with anyone except in certain circumstances ( police ref money laundering etc )TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0

Like other posters have said I don't know why either your bank or the police would be interested in this matter. (Unless you're money laundering millions! LOL!)
What on earth have your employers been telling you and why are they behaving like this.
I'd look for another job straight away if I were you!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

MI5? That's exactly what I feel like. I feel like I am being bullied. However, as I have worked in this job for the last couple of years I will need this reference which frankly makes me sick to my stomach.0

The only issue comes that as a financial institution , the bank may be legally required to report any information that may be related to fraud of any type.
It may be best to speak to CAB and ask them about whats happened.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
