Hi Steerpiker
I usually manage to get up the bank once a week to pay my change in, but any spare money in my account left over for whatever reason gets paid off the Lloyds card straight away even if it's just 1p!
Hi Red
Haven't found any pennies on the floor for a while, found a random shilling the other day though!
I have a change jar at home that's just been sitting there collecting the odd coin here and there. I counted it yesterday and was shocked to see I had about £50 in there, so think I should empty it this weekend and take it into the bank!
Is it still like the old days, that you have to bag it all up, or can you just empty the jar on the counter and say: "I want to pay all this in my account, please"?Adam's diary - My Debt Diary - The Challenge | LBM May 2010 with £23,343.35 | £16,141.46 to go...

Hi Adam
You need to bag it up unfortunately. £50 is amazing though!LBM Aug 09: £18,650.47 - Current: £12,854.93 (£5946.79)

It's strange that they make you do that, considering you can go in with notes and pay in... Anyway, I guess I should go down there today and get some bags for it all. I tend to find myself putting in any loose change from my pocket in there, which usually had a few pound coins or something, which is why it's got so high.

They have a machine in Tesco's near me where you just pour all your change in and it gives you notes back. I presume it charges you for the pleasure though!LBM Aug 09: £18,650.47 - Current: £12,854.93 (£5946.79)

Just popping out of Lurkdom to say hi and good luck with the debt busting WooWoo - always read your diary and smile about your change deposits - a woman after my own heart - am a firm believer in the little and often approach, reckon it's getting into the habit that wins the day in the end rather than making whooping great payments occasionally and contributing nothing in between - though obviously whooping great payments are welcome should they become available!
Those supermarket machines do charge a hefty percentage for the convenience - think it's about 8% If you bank at HSBC, they often have the mahines in their bigger branches that let you chuck your change in and it pays it directly into your account - very handy. Unsure about other banks though - might be worth checking

They do charge you in the supermarkets, but it's a charitable charge I believe, so the supermarkets don't actually pocket the moneyAdam's diary - My Debt Diary - The Challenge | LBM May 2010 with £23,343.35 | £16,141.46 to go...
