Hi Happy, I've been to my parents as well today for a yummy roast.

OH is off to Turkey with a friend today for a week, no snoring and no arguing over the remote, bliss!

I have realised that my dream is to own an apartment in the French Alps. My OH has also said he would like to save for this once I am debt free. I don't see why I can't save £50k over ten years if I can pay off £18,650.47 in 3 years plus interest (OH would save same amount). I don't want a mortgage on the apartment, I will own it outright. I would love to spend the whole winter season snowboarding.

Everyone needs a dream right :)

Just catching up on your diary as my subscription to yours seems to have vanished.

Haven't got to the end yet but surprise surprise, this post caught me eye!!! Half each would only be 25k for you to find and we would find other 25k. Well you did say we need a dream and it would make the dream a bit easier.

Any ideas where in the French Alps?
  • Exactly an atitude of gratitude goes along way when debts get us down we have to remeber the good things in life :D xx

Totally agree with that. It's so important to count your blessings and be grateful for what you do have. x

Unfortunately unless you have a trust fund or rich parents it's hard not to. Working during Uni to pay for everything is a really hard balance (so I'm told), which is why most people rely on the loans.

I think the best way to encorrage this is by childs bank accounts. I think they start at 7 years old and encorrage to save and keep track of all your spending, and open and honest discussion about money always helps too I think.

I didn't have any financial advice growing up, and I'm paying for that now :(

It is a really hard balance and that is when the rot started the first time for me. I left Uni with a student loan and credit card debts (racked up from inter railing, well you know me!).

I did work in my summer holidays and during my time at uni, I was an usherette at the Bristol Hippodrome, so although it was work I felt like I was going to the theatre - it was great!

I love my Mum and Dad to bits but they always struggled financially and I never got good advice from them, it's so important.
  • Last post now, promise to stop taking over your diary again!

Hope you had a fantastic time in St Ives. Think you're doing brilliantly still, keep going with the positive thinking and hope your hangover fades sharpish x
