Went to a surprise birthday party last night for someone in our street

After several glasses of wine I some how agreed to belly dancing and body boarding!

I can't afford either of these things so now need to find a way to cancel I think.

    I have a cold :(

    Hi Woo

Sorry to go back to an old post but I am a bit behind with my subscribed threads!!

I have been going to belly dancing classes, they are great fun. My instructor is so lovely and down to earth and no one minds if you ask her to go over things more than once and we all have a good laugh together. No one at my class laughs at you they laugh with you which makes all the difference.

My next group of classes is starting next week and I will be going alone as my SIL (who started with me) is pregnant and doesn't want to do it but the others who go are friendly so I don't mind.

As Red said it is also very good for you, after a class I ache like mad but the next morning I am fine.

I think you should go for it (Sorry if you have already said either way but I am back on 12th Sept!!)

on no, that's rubbish, why's she started an argument up again so long after?

Keep focusing on what's important! :)

I don't know, probably just drunk and itching for an argument. I am rising above it from now on!

    Hi EE

Unfortunately I have decided I can't afford it, I only have £10 a week and the class is £6.

I am going to have a night out with the girls in my street to get to know them all properly though, so something good will still come out of it.

Are you debt busting as well?

I also have a 15 year old son who is determind to go to University and I dont want him coming out of it with tons of debt

Unfortunately unless you have a trust fund or rich parents it's hard not to. Working during Uni to pay for everything is a really hard balance (so I'm told), which is why most people rely on the loans.

I think its so wrong that banks prey on these young people who dont know any better, im trying to get DS to realise you have to work for everything and debt is bad for your health.

I think the best way to encorrage this is by childs bank accounts. I think they start at 7 years old and encorrage to save and keep track of all your spending, and open and honest discussion about money always helps too I think.

I didn't have any financial advice growing up, and I'm paying for that now :(

I agree knowledge is a wonderful thing when it comes to looking at finances, and im trying to help him with this.
My friends who went to Uni had a better social life than me and I worked full time, but the end result was the same we were both in debt.

Here we go, have you tried the jar system see if that helps, its a set of jars any jars i got mind from asda... one is FFA financial freedom account 10% one is a play account 10% one is LTSS long term savings spends one is giving 5% and one is education 10% ( self help books etc) neccessities 55% bills etc tax car insurance debts etc etc now any spare cash you split it doesnt have to be loads it can be 10 quid intially and build up its what t harv eker recommends his children do it it is meant to make you more better at managing and enjoying for example what ever is in a play account has to be spent it can only roll over for 3 months if your wanting something big, the principle is simpel and it does work im utilising the jars now myself and theres nothing more magnetising that seeing money grow in your jar it seems to bring more money does that make sense ? x

I set up envelopes at the start of the year and thats how I got my Christmas fund plus Im doing the save a pound a day which is growing nicely.
I got DS to open a bank account several years ago and I pay his pocket money in every week, he is really good with it now and saves it up then buys something when he wants it, instead of wasting it on nothing when i used to give him the cash.
