hey hiphouse hope they change ur feedback ;-( i've just listed 6 average paperbacks at 1p each on amazon - not sold there before so have no idea what the postage costs are going to be....if i get 1.41 from amazon after fees is it reasonable to expect i would clear 50p from each one if they sell?
Hi Sarah - sorry not to have responded earlier, but just read this. You need to charge more as your postage costs will be anything from £1.04-£1.85 for an average paperback, and most are at the mid point of £1.41 leaving you with no profit and at worst a loss. Hope you can amend your listings to ask for at least 85p per book - and then you might clear 50p.
Business sellers pay a monthly fee (worth paying if you sell more than 30 something books, sorry can't quite remember the correct figure) which means they get £2.26 for every 1p book whereas you and I get £1.41.
Hope that helps and you've not sold at a loss.0 -

Nothing to add apart from my amazement at the smiley abuse! Need a 'can't believe the confused smiley was being used offensively' smiley but they don't seem to have one... Although I have been that sarky blue one being wielded a bit visciously...

Having now caught up with this thread, I just wanted to say Thank You :T for all the support.
I can't tell you how stressed the negative feedback has made me. I burst into tears coming in from work. I work three part-time jobs as that's all the work that is around at the moment. Selling my books on Amazon is a really important part of my monthly income and it's so frustrating that some unfair comment has the potential to affect that.
Thanks to MsHalfFul for the suggestion to contact Amazon directly - I think I will. The buyer's feedback says YES under "item was as described" and "arrived on time", but their comment is The item was priced in pencil on the inside cover £1, presumeably bought at a boot sale sold to me at £13, £15 including postage. Ripoff. (after fees and second class mail I got £10.90).
I've not had a response to my personal email to the buyer, but with no sales today I can't afford to let this comment go unanswered, so I've added a response "Very saddened to read this feedback. The buyer has not been in contact with me directly. The buyer is incorrect in their presumption that I bought this at a boot sale. This difficult to find book was sold at a fair price. I did not remove any of the marks as I did not wish to damage the book."
Like I say, I hope the buyer has the courage to answer my email - because sometimes it takes real guts to stand up and admit you've made a mistake, and being online it's much easier to just pretend it doesn't matter. The reality is, that I have a poor rating that will be with me for one year and I've yet to find out exactly what impact that will have on sales - that's a really harsh penalty for not having done anything wrong
Sorry, that was an essay. Off my soapbox now - thanks for letting me get all that out and thanks again for the support.0 -

That was a fab description! Love it.0 -
hiphouse, what that person wrote was unfair, without even first discussing it with you. They could have not left feedback until they spoke to you.
That's the problem with people today, just because it is written inside the book for £1 does not mean it was bought for £1 and why did they buy it at the price offered? Who's to say if they had seen it on Amazon for a price of £1, with the correct P&P they would have bought it? Or even if they had bought it, they wouldn't then complain about the state of the book for £1?
Try not to let it get to you and I really really hope it does not in anyway affect the rest of your Amazon sales. I personally don't read feedback on seller's, just look at the amount of ratings they get, ie 20 or whatever it is and that's it.
Good luck and I hope Amazon stick up for you and get it removed.0 -
