If your car has been repossessed why do you need petrol? And as your petrol spend is at weekends is this needed for going out/entertainment?

why are you paying for a disability car? If you are disabled can you not get one through motability.
Your benefit is quite high for someone soo young. What benefits are you receiving?

    Hi.

My mum gets the high rate dla which entitles her to a car so we got a car through the scheme for me to use as i recently learned to drive but my car was repossessed and my mum needs a car for getting around. The dla do pay the car yes i know but if she paid the 200 per month she would loose her money which pays for this house. So this is why i pay it.

My benefits started years back and have been gradually increased over the years. I get both DLA and Incapacity benefit for various reasons. Not high rate motability DLA though which means i am not entitled to the motability scheme car in my name. Even if i was the £200 that pays for the car is the same £200 i use to pay my mums car so would work out the same.

    Thanks, Fraser.

To be honest I think its quite unfair that you critise how they were brought up. I was brought up being told all the time never to live beyond my means and to never get a credit card. Halifax gave me my first credit card without me asking on my 18th birthday, and they constantly increased my credit limit without asking. The banks fell over themselves to give me credit when I was eighteen, and I took it, and that wasn't because of how I was brought up.

The good thing is that you've realised you have a problem. Speak to the cccs first, after one phone call you will feel better. get a pay as you go phone, no more contracts. you have got yourself into a mess. but you can sort it if you are willing to

Thanks for this. This is so true. The banks gave me money without me asking, I spent it and now I'm paying the price. I wasn't aware at the time the consequences or teh mess i would be in now. If i could go back in time i would do.

I recently bought a really cheap phone with pay and go sim card which is much better for me now. Also, can i use CCCS from Scotland? Thanks.

Hi. My mum has a DLA car which i am the nominated driver for so this is where the petrol money comes in. The car is used for me at weekends and all week for whatever my mum needs. So yes the car is a huge part of getting out for both of us.

Do you realise the car is for HER use.
If motability found out you were using it yourself they could take it away.

£20-£30 per month for going out? That's £80-£120 per month - so that's where your "spare" money is going... not counting any choccies bars, the odd sarnie, any magazines, haircuts, other odds and sods...

If you're not well enough to work you're not well enough to go out at the weekend partying. You can't have your cake and eat it...

If you're genuinely too ill to work then that's very unfortunate, but you in that case cannot expect to be spending that amount each month on partying and socialising - especially not when you have debts from irresponcible spending to the level that you do.

You can look at either a DMP (debt management plan) or you could look at going bankrupt - personally I think you should take the harder way out and pay back the money - it may sound harsh but you have been given a chance to learn an extreemly important lesson NOW... not 10 - 20 years down the line when your house is at risk and you have a partner and kids who might potentially become homeless as a result - small mercies...

The car is used for my mum i am the nominated driver. She can't be in the car all the time they understand this. Hospital appointments, shopping etc.. I could even use the car for work if i was working too. I just pay the car so she doesn't loose her money.

I know lots of people on the scheme with no problems. Even people who keep the car miles from the person the car belongs to.

    Thanks, Fraser.

I think what people are questioning is that you are paying for her car so she doesn't loose "her" money? Surely SHE gets a DLA that should cover the cost of the car? That's the whole point...
