o2 Broadband

Has anybody signed up to this and used a friends or relatives o2 telephone number for the £5 discount?
Thinking of switching but am a T-mobile customer though my sister and a couple of friends are on o2, is it as simple as just getting a code texted to the phone for some kind of discount code or something?
if not i guess i could always get a PAYG sim and top up £10 every 3 months

Yes - you can use anyone's O2 mobile phone number - it doesn't have to be tied to the same address as the broadband.

However, you can only get 1 broadband discount per O2 mobile phone number - so if you use your sister's then she won't be able to get a discount as well - unless you later leave O2 broadband.

I think it's as simple as just entering the phone number when you sign up for broadband online (or telling the operator if you sign up on the phone). I don't remember having to do any text code verification (although mine is in the same name so might be different).

Have you checked availability in your area yet? O2 broadband is only worth getting if you can get one of the LLU packages (Standard, Premium or Pro). There's an availability check for O2 here: http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-prov.../o2-broadband.asp

    Hope this helps.
  • dylanuk's right - though they definitely do usually send an SMS to the (PAYG) phone to validate some connection between the # and the broadband application : so have friend/family ready to give you the SMS validation code (though there's no rush as you get 2m free at the moment, so could phone up when you're with friend/family in the first 6 weeks or so to get the # associated for the discount each month).

More details in the info at my site

Not sure when the current £50/£75/£100 cashback opportunities will end, the 2m free offer has published end 28/2 but might well get renewed (again).

Theres an option to register for the deal by telling them when your current contract is due to end and they will still give you the deal :)

O2 have been buying market share with free months and huge Quidco cashbacks for well over a year (when I joined). The exact deal varies a bit from time to time but for most packages there is always something. I've seen a few reports of exchanges being at capacity so I suppose they may decide to stop the incentives but with any luck you'll get in OK.
