I work in the public sector. I'm a social worker. On Friday, I was involved with an emergency that meant I had to spend a large swathe of the day shuttling a very confused 84 year old man to A&E while trying to co-ordinate an emergency placement for him due to large risks present if he were to go home. I didn't have a lunch break and finished a couple of hours late due to having to take him to the placement.
I don't begrudge it for a moment although I hope to take the time back at some point. The truth is that sometimes it is impossible to 'work your hours' and not all public sector employees seem to have the 'easy ride' that some imagine.
  • Purple - really admire people in the caring professions, keep up the good work!

I work in the voluntary sector for a small community group. Started a few months agos on a work at home contract based on 16 hours a week - but i'm there everyday! The work is a lot more than i thought and as it could lead to a full time job, I have been ok with doing it - even though it has impacted on family kids and home life as i'm knackered!!! Money isn't great either....oh dear, i sound like a mug..!

Keep saying to myself that I will allocate 3 days a week to cover my 16 hours and just do that, so will see how i go with it!

were you brave enough to point that out?

Not at the time, I was too gob smacked (and I don't *do* brave)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
