I joined sky last november with the deal that you had the tv, phone and broadband. if i ordered the tv and phone then i would get my broadband free, its taken until yesterday to get my phone line running since beginning of December so now 3 months ive had to wait without a phone line, ive now gone to order the broadband and have been told i have to pay £10.00 per month for broadband connect as the free one isn't available in my area. Funny that!
Can they really do this ?? isn't this false advertising offering free broadband then telling me ive now go to pay £10.00?
What can i do about it, surely with all the hassle ive had to go through waitign for the phone line something can be done?

Sky broadband is only free in areas that they are no longer going through the BT network, that they have unbundled at the local exchange.
When you visit the Sky site you can do a post code/phone number check to see if you are in an area that offers this (there are many areas/exchanges that are not). When you check this a message is shown to tell you you can get it in that area, and if not then pay £10 (used to be £18) to sign up to SkyConnect which is a different service to the LLU free broadband they advertise.
How did you sign up? If through the website this information would have been made visable to you. If through a third party vendor you may need to take it up with them as they know what exchanges Sky are unbundled from and the ones they are not.0 -
I joined up with sky themselves over the phone, at the time i didn't have a phone line but surely they would have known by my postcode?0

You didn't order broadband then so they obviously didn't check. Were you expecting decent customer service from Sky? I'll give you some more bad news - the non-LLU Sky broadband is pretty dire. My advice would be to look for an alternative ISP.0

No when i tried to order it all in one go, i got told i couldn't and had to order each one at 2 week intervals! and obviously its taken 3 months just to sort out the phone line!0

It is worse than dire, my Daughter had it, it was disconnecting on a regular basis, she got no help from Sky..surprise...surprise.
She changed ISP and has had a good connection ever since.0 -
The delay sort-of makes sense.
Sky won't supply a phone unless you take the TV deal then there is a leadtime for the phone which is really a BT phone line that Sky get wholesale from BT so you have to wait for BT Openreach to install it and Sky to get the details set up on their system.
With the ADSL it is once again a BT product which Sky resell and BT won't take an order to do the work until the phone line is in place.
With decent customer service they should have checked that the exchange was unbundled when you tried to get the free ADSL in the first place but obviously they either didn't or didn't tell you the bad news then in case you didn't proceed.
You know it's wrong. I know it's wrong. I virtually guarantee they won't let you cancel because of this though so going back to getting broadband I'll simply repeat that non-LLU Sky sucks and having the Sky phone line (really resold BT) will not stop you getting your ADSL from elsewhere (it may cost more than £10 though)
Check for LLU operators - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php - O2 LLU is cheap and good and just because there is no Sky LLU doesn't mean there is no O2 (I'm on O2 LLU and there is no Sky LLU at my exchange).0 -
I've tried O2 but ive been told that i can't get O2 due to having a sky phone line!! It seems i maybe limited to who i can go to for the broadband. Some people who i know have sky and they haven't had a problem with the service0
-
Who told you?
Check if there is O2 LLU in your exchange then try your phone number in the O2 website.
It may be that Sky do set up your line so you can only get their BB I suppose but taking (say) Post Office for the phone doesn't stop you having somebody else's BB. I thought it was only TalkTalk full unbundling of the line that limited ADSL ISP choice.0 -
